Little Boy Killed In Skiing Accident

I saw this on the news yesterday but I hadn't realised that this little lad was only 7 years old. According to the news, he asked for permission to ski alone. How on earth did his parents allow him to go skiing alone, in such a dangerous place ? What on earth were they thinking of ?

here, there is no mention of his asking permission to ski alone - here, the mother was said to have stopped to help her daughter, who had fallen.

Difficult to comment on this without any real knowledge of the situation. My impression is that he was a smart kid and a competent skier on an easy, well-marked slope. If that's the case then this outcome was highly unlikely and the mother should be pitied (and helped), not castigated.

Just skim-read the French report and it does seem that there is a bit of a mystery here. It definitely states that the boy's sister fell and the mother was occupied with her. Then there is the bit that says his skis were at the top and he must have 'jumped' (climbed?) a barrier of some sort.

This is a very sad story, I don't know that the mother can be accused of neglect. A seven year old boy should not have been on his own, but we don't know the full facts.

He may have asked permission but was it given? It is easy to stay on piste with a modicum of experience but a 7 year old may be confused easily. We recently had a child fatality on the seacliffs (not the first by a long chalk) but here the parents had no clue about the real danger.

The family have just released a statement. His sister lost a ski, mum stopped to help her, boy didn't realise and carried skiing, getting separated from the from the family.
