A British Muslim father who police feared was travelling to Islamic State with his four young children has been detained in Turkey.
Are the British police responsible for all UK families who decide to travel to Turkey ?

The British police are not Thomas Cooks. It is the Foreign Office who issue advise as to the dangers of UK Citizens who wish to travel to the works trouble spots. Let a drone track them down. I am more concerned with those who return to the UK than those who depart our shores. Good riddance.
I am getting a bit confused here.
If a British family want to go and live abroad, I am not sure why we are getting so worked up about it. Whether the Turks want them is another matter, but its their business, not ours. These people are a family, not recalcitrant children. What crime under British law have they committed ?
Although if they decide that they want to go and live under an oppressive Islamic regime, wouldn't Saudi Arabia be the best place to go ?
But I share Bookbinders reservations about the children.

Your question would ideally be answered by Keith Vaz.The Labour man who presided over the government enquiry regarding the 3 Bethnal Green girls who fled to Syria. This Labour gullible Muppet ,no doubt, enjoyed watching the Commissioner of the Met Police give an unwarranted apology to the low life father of the girls. The same Muslim father, not born in this country and hates it, who took his daughter to extremist Muslim anti -West and anti American rallies and then denies he didn't know how his precious *** of a daughter who wishes to prostitute herself to IS was radicalised in the first place.
I notice Keith Vaz has not demanded that the father be summoned back to account for his mendacity at an enquiry.

I agree its tricky Ummm, but my worries are for her kids, not for her and her husband. Their only crime so far seems to be trying to get into Syria, without the proper papers. I still maintain that if they wanted to go to a country where they, as Muslims, would feel more at home, why they don't get on the next plane to Saudi Arabia ?
In fact, as a lot of our own Muslims feel that way, why aren't the authorities in Riyadh overwhelmed by requests to emigrate ? I mean, that if I was a Catholic and I felt persecuted living in a Muslim country, wouldn't I be more keen to to go to live in Italy, or Ireland ?

I doubt the strength of their belief. I'm Irish Catholic and all I see are people going through the motions (in general, there are some hardcore believers) I think that people like the routine of religion. It comforts them to think they'll be going to heaven because they haven't missed mass!!
Reality is for many though....go to mass...meet ya in the pub next door! It's a Saturday night out...
I think it's pretty much the same with many religions. Getting down on your knees 5 times a day doesn't mean you're actually praying. You're just doing what you've been told to do.
I'm very much in favour of freedom to worship whatever god you want, wear whatever clothes you want to wear...but the Islamic faith is male oriented. It's not a faith that favours women. They are second classed citizens whose voice is often not heard or welcomed.
Good people will treat everyone with the respect they deserve, regardless of religion but Islam is the perfect religion for male chauvinist pigs who want total control of the women.
