Sounds a great chap.
Not a bad innings either.
I hope that there will be representatives of those whom he saved, during WW2, at his funeral.
Marvellous man - 2 of my Grandchildren lived in Prague for a while and learnt all about him and went to see his statue.

RIP Sir Nicholas.
Nice innings - a ton plus

Finally caught at silly mid on .
Thanks Mikey - I knew the name but sadly not many details about the man.

RIP Sir Nicholas.
Just been reading about him. A remarkable man; RIP Sir Nicholas.

Yes....a wonderful man.
A distinction was recently drawn on another thread on the use of the word 'hero'. No doubting this gentleman's qualification.

Sad news indeed.
An amazing man, a good long life he had.

So sad he has died, but fitting that he should go on the anniversary of a departure of a train in 1939, carrying the most number of children.

RIP Sir Nicholas.
Bless the man.....

A true hero, indeed.

so true agchristie...it also throws some perspective on a lot of the awards that the queen has to dish out...at least this was well earned and deserved if ever one was....

He was indeed Sandy.

Can you imagine the uproar today, if a modern Winton were to rescue children who were in grave danger abroad, and bring them back to Britain ?
A righteous gentile, as the people he rescued might have said.
RIP

R I P Sir Nicholas, could never agree with your Politics, but away from that, what a Great Guy!
RIP Sir Nicholas

Sandy...found this on the 'net :::

" Winton was born to Jewish parents who converted and baptized him. (He insists that his genealogy has no connection with his willingness to transport the 200 youngsters from Czechoslovakia to Britain in 1938). Because of this, Israel has never recognized him as one of the Righteous Gentiles at Yad Vashem. Not that it matters to Winton: As far as he is concerned, his actions weren't anything extraordinary "

RIP Sir Nicholas, a true humanitarian.
