Who is Tim Farron?
The Newcastle University graduate joined the Liberal Party aged 16
He stood for Parliament four times before finally being elected in 2005
He has increased his majority from under 300 to more nearly 9,000 in the past 10 years
He voted against a rise in tuition fees in 2011
He did not serve in the coalition and was party president between 2011 and 2014
His heroes are Jo Grimond, Joe Strummer and CS Lewis.....
going to be hard to compete against such an illustrious person as he !....
According to wiki -
He is a church-going Anglican who describes "becoming a Christian at the age of eighteen as the most massive choice I have made."
As Baz said, . . . Who???
I wasn't at all being serious in my first post in this thread. Still, it was fun to see the reactions!
No disrespect to Tim Farron but if the Lib Dems are going to rebuild it will take a very long time and I don't see it happening under his leadership, however long it lasts.
Tim Farron is the MP of my old constituency, South Westmorland and Lonsdale - used to be Tory under Michael Jopling, Tory Minister of Agriculture under Thatch, so the constituents know how to misbehave.....
I think most people who follow politics a little will know who Tim Farron is.
A very entertaining character: it's looking like progressive forces in politics are going to need to band together in the near future
No I know it isn't going to happen
On the other hand, as a fairly anonymous person that few people seem to have heard of or will pay any attention to, he's probably the perfect leader for the Lib Dem party at the moment...
It was never really going to be anyone else. He didn't serve in the Coalition, so he is a clean break. He did not back Clegg on tuition fees, which was the first major point where the Public lost trust in the LibDems.
