This is my local MP. I cant stand the ***, his attitude stinks especially his aloof and demeaning attitude to letters from his constituents. And this action says it all.

And whilst within the rules, surely common sense should prevail on this one?

Well let's have a look at his expenses (Just guessing)
Income Tax......£30,000/year
Mortgage..........£20,000/year (depending upon cost of property and length of loan)
School fees.......£ 25,000/year (depending on school)
House keeping yo wife...£20,000/year
He has got £5,000 a year left for holidays, petrol, car...etc etc.
Yes i can understand that he has to "watch his pennies" which after all is just a saying and is relative.
This salary is a pittance compared to many Public Sector Heads.

OK - the first MP was cavalier with his opinion, but to be fair, it was intended as private correspondence - he has been caught out, and he has apologised.
The second MP - I agree with his use of the expenses system.
Instead of trying to work out at what point is something not claimable - and therefore borne by the individual, the sensible thing to do is to claim for absolutely everything, then the system can be seen to work fairly.
It looks ludicrously penny-pinching at first sight, but as the MP explains, these tiny amounts add up over months and years.
So - both appear to be behaving badly, but a little investigation shows that things are not as simple as they first appear.

Well let's have a look at his expenses (Just guessing) ///
Just guessing is right.*
Income Tax......£30,000/year
Mortgage..........£20,000/year (depending upon cost of property and length of loan) *paid by taxpayer
School fees.......£ 25,000/year (depending on school) *optional.(doubtless assisted by some subsidy scheme or other
House keeping yo wife...£20,000/year * Housekeeping. Very profitable business for MPs. The things we consider household expenses, all paid for by the taxpayer + ludicrous £100 a week food allowance. Wives employed at taxpayers expense.
As for transport and petrol, lol, you're joking, right?
