In my house (and those of most of my friends) there never was any such outpouring. As I may have mentioned on AB before when this topic has cropped up, the day the Princess of Wales died was the day a large proportion of the population of this country collectively lost its marbles.
As far as the ridiculous conspiracy theory goes it is precisely that – ridiculous. Anyone seriously wishing to do away with somebody – especially somebody with such a high profile – would be out of their mind to make the attempt by means of a road accident. The driver was drunk, the plan to escape the hotel was unnecessary and badly thought out and three of the four the occupants of the car failed to take the simplest step of all (wearing a seatbelt) to protect themselves. No conspiracy was necessary.
Even the Phoney Pharoah has now accepted that there was no conspitacy and that the Duke of Fugging Edinburgh did not do his son in - at least that's what he says.
