“When a man takes an oath, he's holding his own self in his own hands like water, and if he opens his fingers then, he needn't hope to find himself again.”
These were the word of Sir Thomas More as portrayed in the film, ‘A Man for all Seasons’.
As I understand it, TTT, anyone taking the £3.00 opportunity to participate in the Labour leadership contest, has to state that he supports the party. If he does so, despite being fully aware that he does not, he is clearly lying. Is he “holding his own self in his own hands like water” and, effectively, selling his soul to the devil?
I’m an atheist and souls and devils mean nothing to me, but I would still never perjure myself in such a way. Is that what you are recommending?
