Most of the Bookies are giving it to Corbyn, although Burnham is not far behind. Personally, I think it will be Corbyn...not long to wait now !

I think there's only you and TTT interested.
Everyone should be interested. If Corbyn gets in the Tories (for whom I voted) will virtually have carte Blanche to do as they wish which turns our political system into less of a democracy.

Well...you replied Talbot !

I know lefties like me are a relative rarity here on AB, but an effective opposition Party is in everybody's favour.

The Tories did their bit of naval gazing after Major, and now its Labours turn.

But Labour will bounce back. It always has and it always will. There is still no effective opposition to the Tories in British politics...nobody has "broken the mould yet" despite lots of false starts.
They might bounce back but it won't be with Crazy Corbyn controlling the bungee swing!
Question Author
You may be right Zacs...and it wasn't Hague, IDS, or Howard that ended the Tories 13 years in the wilderness either, as I recall. But a week is long time in politics, as it was once said.
The only question is how large will Corbyn's majority be?
///Most of the Bookies are giving it to Corbyn, although Burnham is not far behind///

Corbyn - 1/16

Burnham - 25/1

This prediction is largely based on wishful thinking.

1. Corbyn (with over 50%)
2. Cooper
3. Burnham
4. Kendal

The crucial thing is for the winner to get more than half the votes straight out. Failure to do so means that 2nd and third preferences come into play and the whole election gets messy and bizarre results can happen.

I have an incline that Cooper could just pip Burnham for 2nd. Both have had terrible campaigns and don't deserve to win.

Hopefully once this is over we will get an effective opposition finally. Miliband was a terrible opposition leader which is why Labour lost the election so conclusively.
The greatest threat to the Tories is the greatest threat to our once great country - COMPLACENCY!
^And Mrs Balls is the clear second favourite @5/1
25/1 ????

I was quoting yesterday's odds(courtesy of BBC) What price is Corbyn on the exchanges now, tablet?
The Conspiracy theorist in me sees the Labour Party establishment frantically discounting and shredding Corbyn votes to stop his majority getting over the 50% mark and trying to make the contest seem closer than it actually is.

Just one last prediction. There will be a huge stink about which votes have not been allowed for Corbyn. And the election will appear far from fair.
1.05, Sven

Some money coming in for Yvette Cooper 12/1 is now best price
Ta. There'll be a stewards enquiry if they somehow stop him winning.
/// There is still no effective opposition to the Tories in British politics...nobody has "broken the mould yet" despite lots of false starts. ///

I never thought I'd see the day when one of Labour's staunchest supporters, our mikey, would admit to that.
The thing is, there's no need to break the mould. The Labour Party came about because there was a genuine need to raise the standard of living for British working people. They were very successful in that. Then power corrupted them and they became the Unionist party, effectively reversing what they had achieved in the way of Britain's economic / manufacturing standards. Once the people had seen the prosperity which the Conservative party had given them, all Labour could do was become a quasi version of the Conservative party. This gave them a taste of power again but they messed that up with the Iraq war and open door migration policy. There is no real need for a Labour Party any more in the UK and that's the truth of their sad situation.
Question Author
AOG...put "other" between no and effective please !
Zacs,
I suspe t you do not mean they became a Unionist Party, which is something entirely different.
In the broader sense. Not the 'union' of two disparate nations. I assumed people could work that out without qualification.
