Record Fine For Nuisance Calls Firm

This is appalling ! Six millions calls, and about half of them were to me I reckon. But a £200,000 fine is peanuts and won't stop this happening again.

When it was obvious that this company was making these calls, the relevant Government Dept, should have stepped in and closed the company down.

Its no use trying to shut the stable door, etc, etc.

Almost every call we get now is someone telling me how much money they have set aside for my accident/PPI/insulation grant/mortgage misselling and if I tell them to go away they still keep trying.
I don't think much can be done as most sound as if they are based in India or similar.
It's got to the stage where I might leave my phone handsets switched off. I only need the line rental now because my broadband needs one

My 'phone in the study has caller ID, no recognise number, no answer,
number withheld, no answer, simples!
I also have the ringer turned off, I can hear the hall one ring, it's so much quieter.

FF....that is exactly what I did for over two years. But serious family problems of late have made me put the phone back on the hook again. But I am still getting 5-6 calls every day.

I am listening to the chap responsible for levying this fine on Radio 4 now and he is desperately trying to convince us that these fines are working, but they clearly are not. Some of the fines imposed by this paper tiger, the
Information Commissioner's Office haven't been paid !

One suggestion is that the MD of these nuisance firms be made personally criminally responsible. But something clearly needs to be done.

You are right Mickey, this fine wont stop it.

It's about time the people that run these companies are made responsible and jailed. Also anyone found guilty should be banned from being associated with any limited company.
