“‘Are you a Christian?’ he would ask them, and ‘if you are a Christian then stand up’ and they would stand up. He’d say ‘because you are a Christian you’re going to see God in about one second’ and then he shot and killed them. And he kept going down the line doing this to people.
But I agree it's not clearcut what happened to people who didn't stand up.

/// There is no evidence that those who were not religious, or of other faiths than Christian were spared. Telling religious people they were about to meet their maker was a cruel gesture from someone committing mass murder. ///
And neither is there proof that those who were not Christian were also shot.
For some strange reason only known to yourself it seems, you fail to take in what he actually said to his victims.
"asking if they were Christian and saying; 'Good, you'll see God in a second"
Why else would he need to ask that? But since there is evidence that he did, makes it a religious killing.
If he has said "are you Muslim, good then meet Allah" before killing them, then it would most certainly be construed as a religious killing, if not much worse.

Another nut, changing gun laws will not stop this sort of thing, there are well over 400 million guns in the US.
The gun does not kill, the nut holding it does so that must be addressed or they will simply use something else instead. One thing that should be done is not name and no picture of the nut, thus denying the 15 mins of fame.

No it doesn't.
It would be a stupid thing to say to people who do not believe in God, so he asked Christians to identify themselves. It would also be a stupid question to ask someone with a red dot on their forehead, or ringlets and a funny hat. But to those without any outwards signs of their faith, he assumed that most would be christian, and his ironic statement that they would soon see god, was intended to mock them.

The issue with America and guns was, is and always will be, cultural.
Despite being one of the most sophisticated societies on the planet, the 'frontier' mentality that forged the nation lives on - the notion that every man should be free to arm himself to protect himself, his family and his property.
No other nation in the world still has this mind-set, which is why they have effective gun laws in place.
No presidential candidate will ever rock up on a 'no guns' ticket, because it's a fast route to oblivion.
So the killing goes on - but really, we don't need to wonder why - we know why, it's just changing the situation that is impossible.

Vulcan42 - //There was a woman on BBC news this morning saying if the students had guns they could have defended themselves. A strange mindset is it not, to stop people killing with guns you give everybody a gun. //
That mindset presupposes that everyone who is not a psychopath, and owns a gun, is never going to ever use it in ager - which is too tall a proposition to be given house room.
The fact is, every single person on the planet has the capacity for mass murder - but don't act upon it.
The idea that the way to defend yourself depends on your ability to get your gun and shoot another human being in the seconds before they shoot you belongs in action films, not real life.

I saw a local pastor interviewed on the Beeb this morning. He said that those who said they were Christians got shot in the head and those who declared another religion or said they were not religious got shot in the legs. he also said that its a second amendment and if the students had been allowed to have guns in school, they could have defended themselves......
I saw the Obama speech too. i thought it was the most strong and statesman like speech I had seen him make. I doubt it will do any good though.

Save the hot air; they won't do anything....a controversial change to the Constitutional Amendment needing 70% in both Houses.....get real, it won't happen.
I've said though that they could exert some control through the taxation of the bullets/shot and give 'credit' to material tracked through legit clubs.....
