There seems to be 3 options: either he was killed in battle, in which case ISIS would proclaim him a martyr. He's seen the light and flown the coop, in which case it's an insult to them and they would keep stumm. Or he has seen the light and been unable to get away or been caught trying to do so, and been as they say, murdered for apostasy, which to me seems the most likely.
