They pledge death or conversion, so at some point the human race is going to have to deal with this problem, is some sort of apocalypse inevitable?

Can you expand a little.
Do you mean:
1. What can we do about Islam? (ie. the religion itself)
2. What can we do about Islamic extremists?
3. What can we do about those who follow Islam, but don't align themselves with extremists?
4. What can we do about those who follow Islam, and quietly approve of extremists?
I think the answers may differ depending on what you're answering, but at the moment, the question is open to interpretation.

Ban it.
2. What can we do about Islamic extremists?
Detain them when they are found.
3. What can we do about those who follow Islam, but don't align themselves with extremists?
How can anyone possible recognise them, so as to be able to separate them from the others?
4. What can we do about those who follow Islam, and quietly approve of extremists?
Once recognised, inter them.
Ban it.

But Islam isn't a terrorist organisation.
Would you have banned Catholicism during the Troubles?
I can understand how membership of terrorist organisations can/should be made - that makes sense...but how do you ban Islam?
And do you mean that followers of Islam should be banned in the UK alone? Or do you mean that we should not associate with any country that has Islam as its main religion?
If so - can you explain what happens when we need oil and oil-based products.
I'm trying to see what the end point of the argument is, rather than any possible short term solutions.
Please expand on what you mean by making it a banned religion, and what you see happening after that law is implemented.

SP, all your options need to be addressed, and as you say in different forms. So got any idea's ?
Even the 'quiet' Muslims need to be treated with caution as ,lets face it, they have not been very forthcoming with sorting out their own mess have they?
TTT, we can start by dumping the HRA and other mechanisms the right-on liberal Guarinistas have put in place to promote their warped way of thinking (and line their pockets).
Then we need to take a tough stance on those who support, sympathise or take part in terrorist and extreme activities.

Your answer to my third question throws up some complications.
If we cannot tell extremists from non-fundamentalists, exactly how do we treat the moderate Muslims.
I think this is the key issue. You are 100% correct in that without precognition, we absolutely cannot tell one Muslim from another - so how do we treat the non-extremists?

With Extreme caution until we know where they stand.
All Muslims should be registered, Mosques inspected and approved (by non Muslims).
If you think that is picking on a group then register everyone and their religion and inspect all places of worship.

Okay...I hear where you're coming from, but I would like you to analyse your solutions and ask yourself exactly what good they will do.
So, every Muslim in the country is registered, and we can walk in mosques at any time, right?
What good will that do when young Muslims are being radicalised by going to extremist sites on the Internet?
What do we do about that?
I think your solutions, whilst on the face of it look like action, they won't actually prevent radicalisation. They look like a very small bandage on a massive open wound. They would look like decisive action, but in effect would not be addressing the core problem.
