The slogan B... to Blair....whats the offence

The slogan B to Blair (you know what i mean) has gone down in political folklore as an apt repudiation of the policies of one mad man in the face of sustained opposition of the faceless and helpless masses. The Times reports (sat 24 Sept) that a woman wearing a shirt with this slogan at some sporting event was arrested and told she was committing an offence. What offence was this?? She was later released without charge but made to cover the slogan. Are we now in some dictatorship??

I think it's lovely when the war is called 'illegal'. So just who's going to arrest Bush and Blair and put them in the dock, and who's going to carry out sentence (because a Guilty verdict is certain). International Law - waste of time. What matters is the Law of the Strong and the Good.

You could exchange notes on how much fun you have with answerbankers and how we cannot agree whether hen is a commie or a nazi. Dom Tuk - let me tell you this... I am not that bloomin naive!  Nor do I worship Blair or in fact even think he's that good.  But I am not so far to the extreme as to try to blame everything that's wrong with my life on him.  I wake up each day and take responsibility for what is right and what is wrong with my life. 

I also accept and respect the democratic process in this country.  It might not be perfect, but it's better than a lot.  Blair was more fairly elected than Bush, for example. 

Also, if people really hate it THAT much, then this country has enough airports and ferry terminals. 

Just because people do not choose to sign up to your little "We hate Blair" club, does not mean that we love him either.  I'm at best neutral about him.  Please don't make assumptions about my views, just because I don't jump on your bandwagon.

Whilst I am generally staying ot of this I feel I should point out that it has been said the if you go far enough to the left/right you meet round the back in the sphere of politics, perhaps that's why it is difficult to determine whether Blair is a Nazi (national socialist) or a commie!

OK coming back to the OP point. What offence did the woman in question commit. I am not so sure breach of the peace or public order offence is valid here as she was not staging a demonstration, just wearing a shirt with that slogan at some sports event. Also why was she made to cover the slogan on her shirt. There are many more FCUK ...that shirt company....slogans that are more distasteful. My main point was are we moving to a society where political comments critical of a government are being curtailed by the enforcement agencies. Should we be worried by this now or in the future whichever govt is in power.

I get easily sidetracked when it comes to Blair....

I also love it when the anti-Blair brigade get going. For my part I think he is an outstanding example of honesty. If he's on the tv or radio, I stop to listen and he has never disappointed me yet.

 

What is so good is the thought of all his detractors voting Tory - because is there any other credible opposition ?

Dom Tuk- if you saw a person with a tshirt saying "911 - what a great day" would you not find it offensive? How about a tshirt with "I sleep with Kids"?

FCUK is not a swear word - it is also tongue in cheek. Whilst, i personally don't have a problem with "BoIIocks to Blair", if someone did complain to the police, what are they meant to do? Ignore them?

 

Not sure if you remember, but the Sex Pistols were taken to court over their album "never mind the boIIocks" over the same word - I believe (though I may be corrected) it was for indecent advertising and they lost.

I'm not going to worry about the t-shirt, or an arrest and release without charge over it... now or in the future.  Now if the person had been charged, or imprisoned, then I might conisder worrying.  Until then, this has just been blown out of all proportion, and given a tiny excuse, jumped upon by the anti-Blair band, who seem happy to sla.g off anyone who doesn't join them, and who won't apologise for doing so. 

I respect the fact that people want to hate Blair, but I do not expect to be verbally 'attacked' for not joining in.
