A total of 66 Labour MPs voted YES last night....66 out of a possible 232, so hardly "in disarray"
It was a free vote, a stance that all Parties should have adopted.
54 SNP Mps voted NO. 7 Tory MPs also voted NO.
Benn made a marvelous speech last night, although his late Dad may not have agreed with him.
What we saw yesterday was democracy in action, exactly the sort of thing that ISIS are denying to millions of people.

If that is true Danny, than well done to the RAF !
Its been said many times that ISIS gets an awful lot of revenue from selling its oil, so I can't understand why these oil fields haven't been hit before ?
I was going to say it isn't rocket science to hit these places but I suppose that that is exactly what it is !

It's not a question of 'hand wringing' with me, Naomi. I'm, along with many other people, none to clear which side we're on.
Much talk from the gov. this morning about those 70,000 'good' rebels. We are supporting islamists against a secular government.
Will we attack Russian planes or the Syrian army? Will we attack Turkish forces in support of the Kurds?
These things are going to need answering, sooner or later.

The Syrian Army (Assad's) are fighting on 2 fronts, one against ISIS and one against the good rebels. With ISIS beat, they can can concentrate on reclaiming their country and fnishing off the rest of the rebels. Assads professional army 300,000 + another 300,000 reservists will make short work of the 70,000 rebels.
Well done Dave.
Well done Dave.
Svejk, //It's not a question of 'hand wringing' with me, Naomi. I'm, along with many other people, none to clear which side we're on. //
I'm sure it isn't, Svejk, but I'm fed up with the banging on from some quarters about innocent lives being lost when IS is slaughtering innocent people in the most horrendous fashion on a daily basis. I've no idea how this whole mess is going to pan out either, but I think for now we have to address what is a very real and immediate threat to the whole world, and that's what we're doing.

naomi24: "sevenOP, like Answerprancer you criticise but you offer no alternative whatsoever. I can only presume your solution is to do nothing, allow 'these monsters' (that's what they are) to carry on spreading their cancerous evil even further with not a thought for the thousands of innocent people they slaughter. I have to wonder whose side you people are on! This hand-wringing is sickening."
naomi, your memory is showing; this thread in Sept 2014 had several contributions from you and the thread was about bombing IS and this was my contribution:
"The West, that predominantly caused these problems, has ALL the tools it needs to effectively solve most of the problems
As ludwig stated, containment is the key element:
first diplomatic measures that include Syria and Iran, in tandem with direct military intervention to eradicate as much of ISIS *and* the other crazies as possible, a diplomatic solution between Turkey and the Kurds, and the threat of withdrawal of American aid - both military and financial- to many culprits around that area.
Saudi and the Gulf States must be brought to heel and the threat of extremely harsh sanctions made clear, and an occupying military force must remain in Afghanistan and Iraq for the foreseeable future.
All this is possible, but will never be done ."

As I as responding to the topic of this thread and not what I would do, your presumption is totally wrong: my views have 'hardened' since that post last year.
Constructive criticism appears to disagree with you, but my advice about this either/or mentality was for your benefit(and others), and you can either accept it, or...
