Put this in News but it has either been overlooked or ignored so posting again in Chatterbank.
Not sure if this has already been posted but I was very sorry to read of the death of author William McIlvanney yesterday. Loved his detective Laidlaw.
Ian Rankin sums it up far better than I could:
"Rebus author Ian Rankin described his death as "dreadful news".
He said: "A truly inspired and inspiring author and an absolute gent."
