Although even after these discoveries there are some who continue to pass it off as innocent.
/// Erik Haugland, head of Norway’s asylum programme pointed out that it was possible the images were on the phones for innocent reasons. ///
/// He explained that asylum-seekers might have the photographs in order to bear witness to the war and horrors they were fleeing in their home country, or they may have been a tactic to sneak through jihadi-controlled areas unharmed. ///

I reckon had the tech not done it's usual job of putting typos in every other word for me to correct, I may well have posted before your correction ;-)
To be honest I can't think of a non-innocent reason to have these photos. Surely for most it is to ensure they are believed when they say what they are fleeing from ? Though they surely would have feed far enough by getting to camps over the border.

Naomi and AOG - thanks for your clarifications - I must be on go-slow this morning!
I really cannot see the reason for taking and keeping photographs of such atrocities on mobile phones for the reasons Mr Haugland has given - surely anyone with a modicum of awareness knows of the atrocities carried out by IS - no-one really needs colour pictures to underline the point.
Secondly, I doubt that IS would assume that 'souvenirs' of their actions on phones constitute tacit support for their actions - not that they require it - they appear to make up their own rules for whom they do and don't arbitrarily murder - I doubt if this perceived pandering would do any good.
I wonder if Mr Haugland is trying to look for some vestige of value in these pictures? If he is, I suggest his search is utterly futile.

bazwillrun - //yeah, like the pics that paeodophiles have on their equipment...purely innocent reasons //
I don't think that analogy really flies.
Mr Haugland's reasons are on the very edge of reasonable argument, but just about hanging on - a paedophile's reasons are never anywhere near reasonable argument - ever.
