OK, I'm not sure the two people are comparable really. But sometimes, yes, people do end up with more than their "fair share" of awards.

Due to the paper's shocking behaviour, I agree entirely with you, they cannot possibly get a fair trial.

It could be that they would be happy to find anyone they can on who to hang the guilty sign, maybe perhaps to somehow make up for their incompetence in the beginning?
