Bradley Manning was the culprit there.
Assange would be much more likely to face extradition to the US from GB. I couldn't see the Swedes ever doing so.
Not sure, much as I detest Assange as a self-important nobody, what he's actually done wrong. As I always say, he's not the Messiah of free speech, he may just be a rather naughty boy who possibly can't keep his trousers up.

"where is the evidence that they want to extradite him?"

Cast your mind back to when this kicked off and some of the strategic info that was being released, not that most people wouldnt have guess it anyways...
Oh the septics want him and want him bad, just because they havent put an in the Times, they want him...

No. There is no evidence that the Americans want to extradite him. The biggest piece of evidence that the Americans DON'T want to extradite him is that they've never applied to the UK to extradite him, the UK being far more likely to do so than Sweden (and where he happens to be).
He should WANT to go to Sweden to reduce his chances of extradition to the US, if that's what he's worried about. The problem for him is that there's a European Arrest Warrant on him relating to a rape in Sweden. He needs to be extradited to Sweden by us to face those charges, no question. He could go to Sweden, be tried for rape and clear his name - but no ...
Every problem he has, he has brought upon himself. I have no sympathy for him whatsoever. Nor for those who put up bail for him, and lost their money.

The US Attorney General stated that they were pursuing a serious criminal matter.
The Swedish Court of Appeal accused the Swedish prosecutors in 2014 for not exploring other methods of enquiry. Early last year they finally offered to visit the embassy. This demonstrates that the prosecutors wasted valuable time due to their intransigence.
The Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Blidt went on record that Sweden would not extradite any person who was at risk of receiving the death penalty.
Would the UK follow suit?

Ichkeria > Sweden is highly unlikely to extradite Assange to the US
Although subject to Swedish law extradition would need to be approved by the UK which is why I asked the question would they agree with the Swedish Minister?
Assange has not obtained the assurances he has sought and however improbable extradition would be, it is matched by a likelihood that it would occur.

Good morning, ma'am! Good to see you once more. I will just add that I think Assange should be arrested if he emerges from the embassy, if for no other reason than the fact that he committed a crime right here in Britain. I assume that jumping bail still IS a crime here and there is no conceivable way in which he can deny he committed it!
I'm sure we could bang him up for a period that the UN would have no say whatsoever in dismissing. What do these UN authorities have to say about the human rights of the women in Sweden who accused him?
He's a self-aggrandising snake who should be compelled to face the music.

The UNHRC - of which this panel is an offshoot, are a joke albeit not a very funny one. Representatives from those beacons of human rights Saudi Arabia, Russia, Qatar, Ivory Coast
The verdict that Assange is being unlawfully detained is so ridiculous that it defies belief. I can't begin to see the logic behind it whereas I can certainly see the politics

Quizmonster - appreciate your further reply. Yes, skipping bail is definitely one offence! I can imagine the anger and frustration of the women who alleged the sexual offences. No argument from me there.
Ichkeria - regarding the composition of the panel, one of the issues I can't understand is why one of the five members was from Australia and who abstained! Wonder where the other panellists originated from? The decision, although not legally binding, nevertheless has provided another strange twist.
One last question to all, who will make a prediction as to how this will end? Will Assange stick it out to 2020?

In the Methods of work of the Working Group on Arbitrary Detention Section 2 it says, "When the case under consideration or the country visit concerns a country of which
one of the members of the Working Group is a national, or in other situations where there
may be a conflict of interest, that member shall not participate in the discussion of the case,
in the visit or in the preparation of the report on the visit."
Assange is Australian so that would explain why the Australian member dropped out. There are five folk on the panel including the Australian and the other four come from Benin, Mexico, South Korea and the Ukraine. The member from the Ukraine said Assange was not being detained arbitrarily.

To be frank, I am getting just a tad fed up with Mr Assange and his self-indulgent shenanigans.
I don't trust the Americans not to whisk him off as soon as he steps out of the Embassy......after all they had plenty of practise with "extraordinary rendition" There are still innocent people in Guantanamo Bay that have yet to be charged.
But Sweden isn't some banana republic and it should be trusted to proceed with their investigation.
Enough is enough Mr Assange...begger off !
