This is ludicrous !

Does dave really think that he is doing us any favours here ! What happens if the Doctors refuse to accept this new contract ? Will he sack 10,000's of Doctors ?

He should step back from the brink, sack Hunt and appoint someone else.

How dare those Doctors disagree with the Tories, don't they know that Public schooling gives them the right to decide everything ?
// O_G is the Drs that are agitating about long hours, would be the first to offer to cover weekends and evenings and rake in 3 times the pay. //

the difficulty with this discussion is that most posters here arent aware of a junior doctors modern contract

The minister has power to impose a contract - which kinda not makes it a contract but never mind - and virtually no other employment contract does the employer enjoy such unfettered power

I am virtually sure under TURLA rules this would not be a 'new' contract but counted for years served purposes etc as a contrinuation of the old one

junior doctors are not allowed to work unsupervised and so forcing them to work at week ends means that their supervisors ( consultants are gonna have to be there as well ) Hence Dr Porter saying that other staff will be next

Emergncy care has always been covered but this new thing is to cover routine lists and out patients during a week end

Running labs X ray and secretarial services has not been costed as it is not 'planned' yet - yes they are planning routine services over a week end without running the usual things you see Mon Fri - labs - X ray and so safety is an issue whethher or not in the Good Old Days the only special investigation Sqad used was a mercury thermometer ....

and Sqad as for enslavement of the junior doctors
you were in the generation whose mouths were stuffed with God werent you ?
You can tell us you know
....

and yeah Mikey - all the CEOs who were meant to support Jeremy Hunt to "solve the period of uncertainty" - NB caused by one J hunt esq -
have all reneged

clearly they dont want a demotivated sullen unhelpful workforce .....
( sudduv rule no 1 in management innit - dont poss off your productive elements as then your productivity will plummet )
This is just the same tactic Thatcher used with the miners. Push them until they have to strike - then demolish the industry. This time it's the NHS, which the Tories have wanted to destroy for years..
I heard the the Welsh medical board, which is chronically short of doctors, has promised to employ any doctors who resign from the English boards as a result of this. Scotland is interested in employing them too!
