For goodness sake. Never mind about lessons on Islam let us have lessons throughout the UK on British Values & the necessity of integration. Please let me remind you once more this is a British country & if foreign tribes wish to settle here the least they should do is learn our language & customs.

Mikey, //Why Naomi...because I don't agree with you ? //

No - because your knowledge of Islam is lacking.
Mikey, //Can you answer TWR's question though , mikey?//

And I'd like an answer to mine too please. Where are these British schools that teach similar 'science'?
My children attend a C of E primary (we're not religious, it's just the village school) and they learn about a variety of religions, visit different religious buildings, are aware of important dates in different religions, make various religious things, etc. I really can't see the harm in it - I'd much rather that than them growing up completely blinkered to other people's ways of life.
As far as I can see TWR has just made some ill-judged comments.

If somebody wants to wear sandals and black clothes, what possible concern is it of mine ?

I expect the "Idiot Wailing" bit was the calling to prayer, which is the way that Muslims do it...again, no business of mine. The idea of calling that person an idiot shows breathtaking ignorance. The local church rings bells on a Sunday...doesn't bother me but I wouldn't dream of calling the bellringers idiots. Not sure if anything else he says requires any other comments.
I'd rather they learn maths, physics, chemistry etc ... anything other than religion.

Religion is the reason the powers that be think kids need to learn about religion. IMO they don't!
Mikey, if the tables were turned & it was the Christians wailing through a pipe what do you think the Muslims would do? join in? we have no need to wail through a pipe like some demented idiot.
Naomi...there are plenty of schools that teach Christianity and its says in the Bible that the earth is only about 6000 years old. That is as much nonsense as any other religion. You know my views on this as we have debated this many, many times before.

My view is that all religions are invented, and that they consist of an irrational belief in illogical circumstances and I see no reason to change that view now. Other can belive how they wish and its no business of mine if they do.
Be thankful not many Christians speak in tongues TWR, now that can get confusing.
TWR, are bell ringers demented idiots too?
talbot...if you are making a case for no religion whatsoever to be taught in Schools, than I tend to agree. But I can't see it happening any time in the near future.

As far as I am aware the basic curriculum says that an act of worship should be done every day, but I am quite ready to be challenged on that belief, as my understanding may be wrong.
Nowhere in the Bible does it state how old the earth is. These figures are derived from inaccurate calculations from dates in the Bible, seized upon by Creationists. No christian with an ounce of nous would claim that the world is only 6000 years old.
///Are we in the UK by any chance for fecks sake, for the last month or so this site has been or given space to debate this dam lot. ///

Erm.....

Mikey, //there are plenty of schools that teach Christianity and its says in the Bible that the earth is only about 6000 years old.//

The bible doesn’t say the earth is only 6000 years old and I know of no mainstream school that teaches that.

//My view is that all religions are invented, and that they consist of an irrational belief in illogical circumstances and I see no reason to change that view now.//

In that case I fail to understand why you support the teaching of any religion in schools.

//Other can belive how they wish and its no business of mine if they do.//

You appear to be eager to make it your business.
Agree with Baths otherwise she'll have a go at me.
Jackdaw....what about Noah's Ark then ?

...that is in the Bible and I was taught that as an irrefutable fact when I was in school.
Some very clever people on this site!
Andy and Mikey have both praised the headmistress for wanting to inform her pupils about Islam. Knowledge overcomes bigotry according to Andy.

If you think being informed about Islam is good, why don't you guys (who in the area of the religion, its history and the life of its prophet are totally ignorant) get informed about it yourselves?

You could start by going on to the web and reading any couple of chapters from the Koran at random and see what you think.

interact with and learn tolerance and respect for other cultures, religions and communities. "

Knowledge overcomes bigotry according to Andy.
Why don't you two educate yourselves about Islam, then guys? Neither of you knows anything about the religion, its history and the life of its prophet. If you spoke based on personal knowledge of Islam rather than quote from the diversity text book.
Mikey, //...what about Noah's Ark then ?

...that is in the Bible and I was taught that as an irrefutable fact when I was in school. //

And you support people who teach similar nonsense to our children? Really?
I'm sorry, I thought I'd deleted a chunk of text and tried to restate it. Hence the garbled (some would say typically so) final text.
Please ignore the final two paragraphs.
I am not in favour of religion being taught as fact in any school, but all this school is trying to do is improve on some of the ignorance that is current with a religion that is increasingly making the headlines in Britain today.

Can I refer you to what SharonA said at 14:22 today ? She and others have made the same point.
