I cant believe this. She has threatened another referendum if Scotland doesnt decide to leave the EU and Britain does. Laughingly she says she thinks it will be the demand of the Scottish people. When has she ever listened to the Scottish people? We were promised a once in a generation opportunity for independence. She hasn't listened to the majority over that ??

I find it interesting that the SNP don't want to be in a small organisation like the UK but DO want to be in a large one like the EU.
So you didn't see this coming?
//I cant believe this.//

I can - easily. It was always on the cards.
I thought a referendum of this type was a “once in a life time” opportunity.
I appreciate that there are people who will vote in June who also voted in 1975, making it a “twice in a lifetime opportunity”, but it’s only 17 months since the Scottish referendum, and wasn’t it known then that a countrywide EU vote was on the cards? In other words, they could have delayed it until after this coming June.
Seems that Nicola Sturgeon wants the Scottish people to keep voting until she gets the result that she wants.
It has been obvious for some time that Scotland is desperate to stay in the EU. If the UK votes to leave, Scotland will hold another referendum to leave the UK and join the EU on their own, Wales will almost certainly follow suit.
This would leave England in the position of being out of the EU but with land borders with 2 EU countries. The natural border of the Channel will be lost for ever , all EU residents will be able to travel to Scotland and Wales at will . Most of them will travel via England( which we will be forced to allow) and of course a few of them may get 'lost' on the way. The 'Non EU Migrants at Calais will be allowed to cross the channel to continue their journey to another EU country, Wales or Scotland . But of course once again we will have no option but to allow them in to 'transit' to Wales or Scotland. No prizes for guessing what will happen .
It would be interesting to see what would happen in Ireland too, where there'd be another EU/non-EU land border.

In fact, I wonder how the folk of NI will vote: there's a large anti-EU vote, but many of those are the same Unionists who supported the "No to Independence" vote in Scotland, iout of a desire to see the UK stay together. Many of them must be looking at the inevitable break up of the UK with some misgivings ...
BIGBAD, Cameron announced in January 2023 there would be a referendum before the end of 2017 ONLY if the Tories won the 2015 election. Why should the SNP have waited for the outcome of the 2015 General Election and then wait for a possible t
Posted too soon...wait for possibly two more years after that for an EU vote?
Assuming that you meant 2013, CORBYLOON, my point is that if the SNP had waited a couple more years, then perhaps they would have had the result they wanted.
Mr. Salmond was possibly too megalomaniacal to see this himself.
ichkiria there is a huge volume of cross border smuggling both ways between Southern and Northern Ireland now. Thousands of people make a full time living from it,there are no border checks.
They will just add 'people' to the goods transported.
What, of course, has not been mentioned that the "granting" of a referendum is not in the gift of the SNP. It is a matter for the Westminster Parliament.

However, I hope the UK votes to leave the EU, and that a new referendum for Scotland is held and that they vote to leave the UK. At least if and when they are allowed to join the EU independently (after the current seven candidates) it will be up to the net contributors to the EU to support Scotland rather than the rest of the UK.

Trebles all round :-)
NEW JUDGE, there is nothing preventing a second referendum in Scotland, it may not be recognised by the UK government but it could go ahead still.
obvious, the sweaties are anti English, that is well known. Sadly they seem to assume that if UK left the EU they'd have a free application to join the EU. The fact is a) they could not afford the fee and b) they'd be behind Greenland in the list, so Jimmy Krankie is, as usual delusional. Bless though I wish our PM had her balls.
Zacs is right here !......all of us should have seen this coming.
No there's nothing to stop them holding their own Corby. There's nothing to stop me organising one either. I was talking about one which had some legitimacy.
TTT...I have no wish to stifle debate, especially from you !

But please refrain from calling everybody that disagrees with you on this subject as "anti-British"

Teresa May, and George Osborne are both firmly in the IN camp, and I am sure you wouldn't call these people anti-British, would you ?
Lol ... who do you think DIDN'T see this coming , mikey?
Scotland and Wales have ports and airports. Why should we be 'forced' to allow people to travel via England?
Talbot....well, I would have thought not many, but gordiescotland1 seems to have proved me wrong !
NEW JUDGE you could organise your own but I think it safe to say yours would have no political impact, unlike one by the Scots Government.
