I rather hope they choose the new one. Although I had only just drummed it into my head that the NZ flag is the one with the RED stars which is the easiest way to distinguish it from the Australian one...
anyone know if they already changed it, I knew about the red stars but I always though there was more of them, there used to be at least 1 more in among crux.
The Australian flag has five (white) stars of the Cross; for some reason NZ has and as far as I can tell always has had, only four.
And Australia also has its own Commonwealth star, so six in all
I can understand wanting to cut apron strings with the UK and have their own symbol; but the fern looks so amateurish. Are they allowing the kiddies to vote or something ?
They will stick with the old flag with the union jack on it.
The referendum to chose the contender used a tranferreble vote system, and the one that is up against the old flag came third (out of 5) out of those on offer. So for most New Zealanders, they have already rejected the contender.
Thank you and bless the Kiwis. I am pleased with the result. I embrace the countries of our Commonwealth and have a great deal of respect and gratitude towards them.
Now lets have an end to the EU flag fluttering in our country please.
