But it would appear that the Transport for London is withholding information on the number of women who are sexually assaulted when they get into taxi cabs, why could this be?

And another thing - no woman should think herself safe getting into a car they've hailed on the street because they've taken note of the licence plate. If you are a rapist on the prowl, then you are more likely to have false plates on.

Oh, and getting back to AOG's original question - TfL are not publishing the figures because at the moment, they're provisional and unverified.

I have rarely hailed a cab but a very valid point - the incidents I have experienced haven't been serious really but I know many have fallen foul of rogue drivers.

I certainly don't consider myself to be " incurably offended" ...but i do think it would have been just as easy for OG to say "women"... thus including " all " women as needing to be wary of the cabs/taxis they get into.

Ok Daisy keep a known company to you on your mobile and request a time you want picking up.
Unfortunately in London and other cities seems like not the only way this is happening with "cabs" parking up outside busy nightclubs / pubs at closing time most people just want to get home.
If only TFL would pull its finger out in London so that all documentation was put through and checked by one person. This even applies to Black cabs in London even they are a lot safer

I think it's important that the seriousness of the subject is not used to mask offence given - albeit unintentionally - in the course of delivering it.

The importance of the subject is not proportional to the seriousness of some peoples' feelings - and it is not a valid argument to suggest that it is.

This is the argument used by any motorist stopped for a minor speeding offence - shouldn't the police be chasing 'real criminals'/ It does sound like a fair point, but the logic is faulty.

I appreciate that your response was not cryptic to you - you posted it, but it was to me, who did not understand it, so thanks for the explanation.

However, I cannot agree with your assessment.

My contribtuons to the thread thus far have been a point about the perceived offence felt by some posters - which I think is a legitimate part of the wider debate.

Plus a light-hearted message to another AB'er regarding a post, which was met with hostility and rudeness by the OP, who has had their offensive response removed.

Plus my query to yourself.

I don't think that those three posts, in a thread of seventy-five and counting really constitutes 'encouragement' to 'de-rail' anything - and if you look at the evidence I have offered, I am sure you would agree.
