Do you go to a news channel - Sky News or BBC News? A newspaper site, or one of the new media sites such as Huffington Post?

What governs your decision?

I usually go to Sky New, though I'm getting a bit fed up of most stuff being on a video. I can't watch them at work! BBC is my next port of call.
Quite a few of them. France 24, RT, Euronews cover stuff the BBC won't touch.
It depends what it relates to. Usually the BBC, and Sky and if it is aviation related, a work forum where they tend to have "all the goss"
Any of the 'big three' (BBC, CNN and Al Jazeera) might get my attention but it would usually be the BBC first.

However, wherever possible, I like to check primary sources as well. For example, earlier today BBC radio news was reporting that the Foreign Office was 'advising against all but essential travel' to Brussels but a quick look at the FCO website shows that to be untrue:
https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/belgium
I have BBC News as my homepage, I prefer the way they're cautious and don't publish anything till it's confirmed.
PS agree with rocky, I still want to read things, at my own speed, not watch video. I'm not sure if this makes me old fashioned or what, but I think it's a better way of absorbing things.
BBC news for me.
CHRIS that site says "The Belgian authorities are currently advising against travel to Brussels. You are advised to follow the instructions of the Belgian security authorities."

This is interesting - no newspapers so far.
Usually BBC News online, although I hate the website since it changed a year or so back (I'm at work weekdays so can't watch on TV). For that kind of story because it's usually less sensational and more fact filled. When it's nothing too serious I use Mail online as it has lots of pictures!!
It's no wonder there are so many deluded people on this site.
Relying on the BBC for information, lol.

Prudie...I wonder whether we are the last generation to think of newspapers as being the first place to go for news.

There are a number of people at work who found out about Brussels today because of Twitter (Huffington was posting before anyone else) rather than traditional sources.

But then, after that - colleagues logged onto the BBC and Sky News for further details.

But the problem with the BBC is that it's ultra-reticent to publish anything until it has rock solid verification. I suppose it has it's international reputation for accuracy to maintain.
I used to know someone who worked for BBC News 24. He said to me "Sky news have got us licked" Sky do seem to be more up to date than the BBC
Every news site is, by definition, subjectively biased. Recently, on closing down the Independent, it was said that news cannot be successfully monetised in the modern world. The license fee is probably as close to ideal as you can get, but it still has lots of problems.
the BBC for me, as if i am at work, i know it won't alarm the content filters.
Ch4 news on the telly.
JNO's "cautious" often means the BBC feels like it behind everyone else though.
i do find ll news reporting odd though ... i was reding about the didcot disaster yesterday - those men had bloody humungous building fall on them 4 weeks ago, and yet they are still not referred to as ded, only missing. odd
Because I tend to keep AB open and minimised but peek in when I'm at work, pretty much all big news stories and especially deaths I see on here first. I only tend to browse the news at lunchtime.
Always the BBC for me, mostly by radio or the 'net, as I rarely watch much TV these days.
SP as for newspapers you may be right - I can't remember when I last bought a paper. Even the once de rigeur Sunday papers don't attract me any more.
I always start with R4, then (as today) went on to BBC News on the black box,
Then I try other sites for information. Habit governs my initial decision - then I am aware of the wider need and search.
