New Zealand Flag
Many thanks indeed to New Zealand for continuing to recognise the links with the UK. For our part, we shall never forget the great sacrifices you made to help us in two World Wars. It is a matter of great shame to us that you were treated so badly by our useless politicians when they went crawling to join the Common Market in the 1970s. It is just possiblethat the British people will get off their knees amd vote to stuff the EU in June!

In what way was "(NJ) treated so badly by our useless politicians when they went crawling to join the Common Market in the 1970s"
I have demonstrated that their core exports are still freely available in our shops.

I believe his appreciation in New Zealand keeping the mother nation's flag on their National Flag is sincere.
The Commonwealth and Dominions have never been shy on coming forward in two major World Conflicts. The men and women of those countries sacrificed a lot of men and women in order to assist us. They could of said it is not our problem. It is a European problem. When Heath took us into the Common Market in the 70s we virtually washed our hands of our Commonwealth. Ignored them and cosied up to our new found slimy, untrustworthy neighbours who suck us dry for nothing and place this country in jeopardy by their crazy open door policy. We owe a great deal of thanks to the old Commonwealth. We owe the European union ZILCH.!!!
I believe chris is sincere and it is not a rant just because you disagree with him.

and chris the second part of your post has NOTHING to do with the first
actually we could recognise the role of the Poles during the war who fought valiantly for King George ( of the United Kingdom that is ! ), lost 25% of their population ( mortality was 250 per thousand ) and were betrayed at Yalta
[ yeah yeah who's Yalta ? never heard of her etc etc ]
and as amatter of record in the seventies the ABC countries ( Australia Canada and NZ ) showed no interest informing any trade union or closer political union
is it just possible you will read some history of that time ?
no it isnt a rant it is the usual screaming non sequitur
everyone on AB should be able to recognise at 50 metres ...
( flag has nothing to do with EU vote for those such as 3T who need to revise the meaning of non-sequitur o lardy lardy )

retro...I too, am glad that NZ has decided to keep the flag as it is. We do owe the Kiwis a lot and its nice that they are keeping this link with the Old Country, and I think Dame Kiri Janette Te Kanawa is smashing !
But I am still unclear how NZ suffered as a result of us joining the Common Market ?

who mentioned 'treason'? Not me. Yes I do know of the Yalta meeting with Churchill,Stalin,Roosevelt and I am aware of the Katyn forest massacre by Stalin and yes I am aware of the Chezks problems when they left the RAF squadrons post war and returned to their homes to be imprisoned for fighting against the common enemy (Germany) alongside Russia's ally ( Great Britain).
My History is reasonably sound of that era.

Retro...I saw the Polish War Cemetery at Monte Cassino a few years ago...an incredible sight and well worth the visit, if you are ever holidaying in the area.

Slightly off-topic I know but I am sure that you would be interested. The Abbey itself is also wonderful !

// you might like to read this, rather than make stuff up....... //

and .... they have made this stuff up - or rather re written history with hindsight. As you did over Stephen Waldorf. we all do.
"a country of 3 m renegotiated with a group of countries of 200m...."
isnt exactly what they were saying at the time 1973
but my ! reads OK 2015 in a context of Brexit
In 1973 Oz and NZ showed no interest in trading with Britain.
I suggest they were looking to reorganise trade with the pacific rim countries which made more economic sense ....

Yes ok .Stephen Waldorf played a great part in the decline of import/exports between the UK and New Zealand when we joined the European Union. Thanks to him being shot up and pistol whipped the Kiwis retained our union flag. That sums it all up so cleverly and I can retire to my pit none the wiser. :-)
