Are Ukip Onto A Winner Here?
Raising the drink driving limit in Scotland and a repeal of the smoking ban in pubs and clubs.

Do you support these measures?
I wasn't aware that there were variations in the allowable blood alcohol levels across the country, so equalisation makes some sense.
But the reintroduction of smoking in pubs and bars?
Seems a bit retrograde.

Completely bonkers !
Is it any wonder that they only have one MP and their Leader hasn't managed, despite his many attempts, to get in the HOC ?

Schipol airport has tiny smoking rooms with massive extraction fans sucking everything out. It's noisy when you're in there and a bit smoky because it's tiny and there are a lot of travellers in there, If you shut it for 5 mins an hour I don't think second hand smoke would be a problem while th cleaners go in.
Pubs could have a scaled down version.
As for the decline in pubs, it's only non smokers who seem to fail to see the link. A pint without a fag is just not an option for most. The two go hand in hand. The pubs emptied of smokers and filled with kids. I know which I prefer.

Quizproquo...in Wales, only about 20% of adults now still smoke. Why should the rest of us suffer for the selfish pleasure of a minority ?
I have spent this evening in a busy Wetherspoons Pub in the heart of my home town, and there was no sign whatsoever that the smoking ban was having any effect on the trade....its a tired excuse that should have been screwed up into an ashtray a long time ago.
Smokers are on the run, and they had better get used to it.

Lovely to read such a pleasant debate - re the topic, I don't think smoking will ever return to pubs as such. Even as a smoker, I can see that - the day it was outlawed was the last day of casually visiting a pub for me and I accept that.
Alcohol drink drive linits should be uniform and am surprised they aren't.

Mikey loves his skewed statistics. Where does this 'about' 20% come from? Then to imply that the tenuous 80% actually visit a pub is misleading, but we expect that. I our local when the smokers are gathered under the glass roofed cast iron 30ft X 20ft heated enclosure, the non smokers all follow out, because it is dead inside due to the po faced non smokers, imitating lemon tasters. We smokers are a more garrulous, good humoured bunch.
