The Government is in favour of staying in the EU.
We all knew about this when we voted in the last General Election.
Does anyone know the truth about how the various 'Leave' campaigns are funded?
If they all united behind a single campaign, would they be able to pool their money?
Why is this petition being signed when the leaflets have already been delivered?
Do those who are returning their leaflets understand that any costs won't be borne by the Government, but by us?
Should I have used 'borne' or 'born'?

Is it still the case that the 'leave' campaign can still not decide which of the 3 groups are to be the 'official' one or have they now made a decision?
The official 'leave' group will get £7 million of TAXPAYERS money to fund the campaign as will the 'stay' group.
On TV last night the Labour party spokesperson made it very clear that they fully supported and congratulated the government in sending out the information leaflets and said they would have done the same if they were in power. As the other parties ( apart UKIP with it's one MP) also support 'stay' I don't see there will be much of a debate no matter how many signatures the petition gets.

Regardless of the leaflet, this is where I part company with Mr Cameron. He made it quite clear that if he did not secure fundamental reform of the EU he would recommend that the UK’s best interests lie outside. Despite his constant references to a “reformed” European Union, by any stretch of the imagination he secured no such reforms. The EU doesn’t do reform and he should have known before he made his pledge that he would fail. But now here he is, publishing his booklet “Why the Government believes that voting to remain in the European Union is the best decision for the UK”. What’s changed?
“By the way - £9million to design, print and distribute leaflets...someone is being shafted here...”
I don’t know whether you think it’s a good or bad deal, sp. Personally I think the cost has been considerably understated – a point which I made over the weekend. Even discounting delivery charges because the government is said to benefit from “free” mail delivery (which I don’t for reasons I made clear) how we can be expected to believe that the booklet could be conceived, designed, drafted, printed and bound on its glossy paper with its HD photographs for 34p a pop befuddles me. I know the design work costs the same whether you produce one or 27m copies, but the costs of the paper, printing and distribution (to Royal Mail centres) alone must exceed £9m.
And on top of that most of the (limited) contents can be filed under “lies”, “half truths”, “optimistic speculation”, or “fiction”.

//So the UK voted for this government less than 12 months ago and were the only party as far as I know that promised a referendum//
Cameron only promised a referendum to prevent a landslide UKIP vote, because they had threatened the very same. He is now running scared that the vote will go against what he intended from day 1. The tax payers money he has spent on this propaganda leaflet is £9million over and above what was agreed when the referendum guidelines were set. Both the in and out campaigns were allotted a set amount to be raised by private means. He has acted in a thoroughly despicable, and possibly illegal, manner by issuing a leaflet that is biased. Now what if the vote is to stay in. Is it possible that it could be challenged, because the government influenced the vote with an illegal publication? Always think before gloat.

I've been sat on the fence with regards to whether or not we should stay or leave the EU ( TBH i hadnt really gone out of my way to find out the pro's and consof leaving), but after reading David's leaflet this morning I think im going to vote to stay in, I will wait to see what the "leave EU" leaflet says but its going to have to come up with some really solid arguments to leave.
hrag, that was not the remain leaflet!!! That was a government leaflet designed and printed in Germany by a company who's main source of income is EU policy and campaign messages. Paid for by the British taxpayer. The respective in or out pamphlets were supposed to be funded independently of government interference. You are being blind sided.
"Hang on...does the leave campaign also have funds of £7million??!"
This leaflet was not published by the "Remain" campaign. It was published by the government. The "Leave" and "Remain" cmpaigns willl each have their funds to spend when the campaign proper begins. This government publication effectively gives the "Remain" campaign a £9m boost. And that's why people are complaining that it's an inappropriate use of taxpayers' dosh.
