There are already over twice the signatures needed on this Government petition but at least it registers people's concern. Please sign it. This is a travesty.

“The Government is in favour of staying in the EU.” Regardless of the leaflet, this is where I part company with Mr Cameron. He made it quite clear that if he did not secure fundamental reform of the EU he would recommend that the UK’s best interests lie outside. Despite his constant references to a “ reformed” European Union, by any stretch of the...

So the UK voted for this government less than 12 months ago and were the only party as far as I know that promised a referendum but now we don't want to hear their arguments?
The vast majority of the other parties we voted for (except UKIP) also want to remain so these parties represent the majority of voters.
There will be free mailshots (funded by taxpayers)-for both the official REMAIN and LEAVE teams. Should there be a petition saying we don't want money to be spent on those?

I think you will find that the Brexit group will get something like £700,000. Bit of a difference. Yes I know the leaflets are out but this could discredit them. I received mine this morning. I intend to counter claim each point and send it back to Downing Street as suggested by Liam Fox.

“You have to ask whether it is right for the Government to be spending over £9 million of taxpayers’ money on this exercise when the official campaign groups, which are yet to be designated, will be limited to spending £7 million of privately sourced funding.”

In the run up to a referendum on such an important issue I would expect any government to promote its policy. I don’t agree with the government’s stance on our continuing membership of the EU, but I understand why they have published these leaflets. I can imagine that if they hadn’t there would be people complaining at the lack of information so either way they’d have been criticised. Sending them back is nonsense. They’ll be opened by a junior clerk and binned. What does that achieve? Nothing.

Thanks to Naomi for posting this. Even if you don't agree with the government, why should you be so surprised that they are trying to fight tooth and nail to defend what is, according to them, in their and our best interests? But then I would say that -- which is why I was pleased to see someone in the "out" camp on AB making this point first.
