As I said in the 4th reply.

For those who are a little slow in understanding, let me try once again.

The newspaper article suggested that this SAS hero had been treated unfairly by being given a prison sentence, so this is the question I asked in my headline.

/// Regardless Of This Man's Exemplary Military Career, Surely "HE SHOULD HAVE" Received A Jail Sentence For Keeping This Stash Of Weapons? ///

I don't know why I bother, but if it helps to educate some, it's all not lost.

It is clearly obvious Mr Aog !

Thank you.
Consider this, man receives a suspended sentence because of a previous military career. A question could be posed, "Regardless Of This Man's Exemplary Military Career, Surely He Should Have Received A Jail Sentence For Keeping This Stash Of Weapons?"

Different outcomes, exactly the same question.

Yes but this man did not receive a suspended sentence.

4 out of 10, must try harder.

That is why I said they were DIFFERENT outcomes but the SAME question.
Very poorly worded. Not for the first time.
Insanity in individuals is something rare - but in groups, parties, nations, epochs (and certain AB threads) it is the rule. Friedrich Nietzsche
Khandro, if this man really had just kept a single pistol as a war souvenir I would have signed the petition to have his sentence reduced or quashed.
But he had 5 guns and over 180 rounds of ammunition including 'Dum-Dum' bullets that are banned by the Geneva Convention even from use in war!
He must have made a significant effort over the years to acquire these weapons, all from illegal sources. The fact that he is an ex-service man with experience of firearms is NOT an excuse, it actually makes the situation worse as he MUST have known very well that what he was doing was illegal and unacceptable.
Under all the circumstances I think the sentence was too short and it should have been at least 5 years!
Again I ask, suppose that every other fact was identical but the man was a British Muslim ex-service man, would the sentence, headlines and the petitions be the same??
I think that in that circumstance he would have been called a terrorist sympathizer , or worse. and would be looking at 15 to 20 years! with calls for the death sentence all over AB! Justice should be 'blind' !
^^^ wot Eddie said !!

no it isnt ....as XM says - very poorly worded - obvious perhaps to Mystic Meg

this man after a conviction in my opinion should not have been imprisoned

has all the important points of an imposed prison sentence and that you didnt agree with it

as Judge judy ( surely one of OL's fave common law judges would and often does ) say - coulda shoulda woulda

go on striving to be clear OAG - you clearly need to
This was clearly a case-decision for Captain Kirk not for Mr Spock.
