Feel like a wee rant before I go to bed so here goes. Following two hip replacements I find cutting my toe nails etc a bit problematic. Spoke to my doctor who recommended that I put my name on the waiting list for an appointment with an NHS podiatrist. I was told there was a 6 week waiting list - but after 8 weeks I phoned as I had heard nothing. Was then told the waiting list was 18/20 weeks. Phoned again this morning to be told I was indeed on the waiting list but the clinic I would go to is full at the moment. I will have been on the waiting list for a year come May and no nearer being seen. Rant over; off to bed. Sleep tight everyone.

hi Maggie like you after hip replacement surgery I too have problems and tried to get on NHS list but they were booked up every time I rang I'm thinking of going to the local vets as I need rabbit cutters as my nails are so thick lol x

You might have to find a private podiatrist, Maggie.

I have a potential ingrown toenail and I go to a private podiatrist every three months. It costs £35.00 each time but it is well worth it.

Maggie, a sure way to the top of the list is to get yourself a dose of Type 2 diabetes.
Probably better to go private though till a space opens up.

douglas I'm type 2 that's why the diabetic nurse put me down for the foot clinic but trying to get an appointment is impossible x

I have a similar issue with RA.

I think there might be some kind of classifying system in place of patients as I'm always asked which card I am when I make an appointment. Maybe to prioritise patients with conditions like diabetes.

I must admit though I've never had to wait very long for an appointment, they were very quick when I had ingrowing and involuted toenails and for the surgery for that (though they did keep getting infected and I have a duff immune system).

I don't go very often for toenail cutting but it's never been more than a week or so wait. Due to the RA it's forcing some other toenails to grow not straight and causing problems.

I managed to find some longer handled toenail cutters. Podiatry also recommended trying to keep them down with a long emery board in the meantime.

I see a podiatrist every three months and have to make an appointment at least four weeks in advance. The odd thing is, there's never anybody waiting either before or after me. I wonder if the appointments are very well spaced or if people forget because of how far in advance they have to book.
