I haven't voted for Angie and neither did anyone in Poland, Hungary etc but she is telling us what our future is ... like it or lump it.
Question Author
Mikey, //He might have been "voted in" in Germany, but nobody voted for him in Holland, Poland, Norway, etc, etc. The EU has yet to try to use such methods. //

Oops. :o)
I would be more inclined to believe Boris if he had been a long time supporter of 'leave'. But as we all know he only made up his mind on which side to support a few hours before the deadline. He was asking both sides how much power and position he would be offered in the government if his chosen side won. He chose 'leave' as it offered him a better personal deal. now he realizes he has made a poor choice and is desperately trying to swing opinion back his way. Boris is above all else a politician and is trying to feather his own nest. He does not give a damn which side wins as long as he is in a prominent / powerful position in it !
That sounds very much like you have described a politician there EDDIE.

I thought Eddie was describing Corbyn.
At least it's not a description of Cameron.
Odd how Boris neglected to mention a former party leader who said , "We must build a kind of United States of Europe." I wonder why?
It isn't a snap decision for political expediency at all; Boris, having written a biography of Winston Churchill, whom he admires enormously, has made it clear that Churchill would be, in the present circumstances, without doubt, a Brexiter.
Question Author
THECORBYLOON, Maybe because the former party leader didn't harbour personal ambition to conquer the whole of Europe. Just a thought.
^^ How come then was Boris on the phone to Cameron just hours before he decided to support 'leave' asking how much he could expect for supporting 'remain'? If Cameron had been in a position to offer him the leadership of the conservative party Boris would now be an avid supporter of 'remain'.
Eddie....its perfectly obvious why Boris is part of the LEAVE camp. He thinks that it might win the Referendum, but much more importantly, he is on the other side of Dave.

He realises that he is the heir apparent of the Tory Party, and it really doesn't matter what the outcome of the vote is because Dave will be gone whatever happens.....sooner rather than later if we all vote LEAVE, and Boris will be waiting in the wings, dagger drawn. He will slash his way to the top.
NAOMI, Boris was likening the EU to those who had ambitions to control Europe and although Churchill had no personal ambition to rule over Europe, he appeared to support a structure under which Europe would be a single entity much like the USA.
^ But the EU (and increasingly the direction it is moving to) is nothing like the USA.
Question Author
THECORBYLOON. //Churchill had no personal ambition to rule over Europe//

Precisely. You've answered your own question.
And to think I never used to like Boris !! Sorry mate ...
As you can probably guess by now, 'Boris'. He is an Historian and he is quite accurate in what he says.
// Odd how Boris neglected to mention a former party leader who said , "We must build a kind of United States of Europe." I wonder why?//

and yet Bojo DID mention another great unifier of europe ( no not Napoleon )

thanks for that

who else was aware that Churchill gave great speeches in support of the idea in opposition and then did diddly squat about it in his ministry of 1952-5 ?
Khandro, @ 10:23 is spot on. The federal government of the USA does not, by and large, interfere with the domestic politics of individual states. Thus murderers in Maine can expect a life sentence whilst those in Texas can expect a death sentence.
