I often watch the program about bailifs etc and invariably they are throwing out someone for not paying the rent, they are usually smokers. So smoking is more important than their home, for 2 people that's hundreds per month, so I always think well smoke or roof, it's your choice and they have chosen to smoke.
TTT....we mustn't be too hard of smokers. Most of them are addicted and are victims of their upbringing and social class.
I understand that smokers can get free help on the NHS, and we should encourage them to do so. I only smoked for about 10 years, up until I was 25 but it must be very difficult for long-addicted smokers to stop without help.
Its still too common amongst the poor and disadvantaged, and these people are the very ones that can least afford to smoke.
The cost of smoking is staggering, without further tax hikes. There is a chap who buys 60 cigarettes every morning, from my local Co-op. This must amount a daily outlay of at least £25 !
That is over £9000 a year !

fair enough mamy, no harm done, i think it does make the pint though that pre ban, non smokers did endure every day.
Mikey, yes, some truth in what you say but I come from a poor background and yes they all smoked I am 1 of 6 and my parents and siblings all smoked. I found the whole idea completely disgusting from an early age long before I had any clue about the health effects. One of my siblings and step dad have given up. My mum died of lung cancer, my dad died of several health issues both heavy smokers. In later life my siblings all envied me for finding it so abhorrent early on. Whilst they buckled to peer pressure I had in effect an impenetrable shield.

Prudie....(16:32)....not sure what your point is here.
I am certainly not ranting, just adding some facts and figures to TTT's original thread.
My Mum, like TTT's, died of lung cancer and it was a horrible way to die. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
Carry on smoking if you want to.....but I would much rather you didn't, even though I don't know you.
