Oh dear, did you cringe when David Jason told that story of how the Queen allegedly described a certain foreign diplomat?

Will.I.am is founder (?) member of Black Eyed Peas.

Weren't they an Indy band til a member left and Fergie arrived? She's now worth $48million allegedly.

Have no idea who was sitting of David's left.
The other gentleman is Michael Morpurgo.

Mikey people often adopt stage names - John Wayne for example.

AOG, if you look at the link, both spelling are acceptable
off topic, but wasn't John Wayne - Marion something?
Yes

Notice that you also seem to be having trouble, but in your case, with the 'C' letter it seems? :0)
Marion Mitchell Morrison.

But how far would he have got if he had changed his name to j.w.ayne ?
He'd have made some rocking good music.

I reckon he'd have done ok Mikey, a man who took on so many different roles and the played John Wayne in every one of them truly had a special talent.

Thanks for that, I thought that was how one spelt it, but I was completely unaware that there were two ways.
I suppose he could have added 4444 to his name by way of variation, but it doesn't matter a whole lot.
Why do I get a feeling of awkwardness on this thread?
I'm a great fan of Wayne...........all those wonderful John Ford films and the best "The Shootist" in my opinion, although he played John Wayne is every film he made. Very well as it happens.
Lets get back to the thread....in my opinion, Jason wasn't being racist..........it was just a light-hearted story about Betty, and all the better for that. People are far too po-faced these days.
To return to the OP - David misremembered or mistold a quip from the Queen from 47 years ago.

He chose the quip badly given the occasion and his fellow guests, but I don't feel that makes him racist just misjudged.

Will's face seemed to say 'Wow, can you say that on British TV'.

Kirsty seemed a bit ruffled too but had no choice but to gloss over it.
Love David Jason, but he'll always be Del Boy to me.

I must remember that the next time you comment on what Nigel Farage or Boris Johnson come out with something that you get offended over.
I thought something similar when I read that too!
david jason mistiming a joke ?

what a pity - his comic timing was ace in Do Not Adjust Your Set in 1964.
I particularly like the Hells Grannies sketch
The word 'racist' doesn't half get banded about a lot, doesn't it ....
