Oh dear, did you cringe when David Jason told that story of how the Queen allegedly described a certain foreign diplomat?

Not ssure what days, I'll have to go and look it up - maybe mikey has it at his fingertips (as Samantha might say). The joke is that Samantha exists purely in the imagination - as does Sven whenever she is otherwise occupied. I completely agree with mikey. :)

Jason is old so you cannot blame him for get confused and misremembering a joke.
However, you have to question his judgement in retelling
a) a joke that was racist (or at least was racist the way he remembered it) and
b) attributing the joke to her Majesty.
Falsely branding the Queen as a racist, on national television, is not clever even from an institution like Sir David.

I think Sir David either mis-remembered, or mis-quoted the story he was telling.
It appears to me that the reaction was centred around the simple fact that his story was not remotely amusing, and Kirsty Young forced a laugh to be polite, and everyone else looked a little embarrassed.
Not sure how you can parlay 'racism' out of that.
