Already got over 100,000 signatures, which means that it will be considered for Parliamentary debate.

Even though I voted Remain, I think this is a bad idea.

The Commisioners are the ones at the steering wheel, hence the fuss.

The elected parts of the EU are increasingly being accused of being a "rubber stamping" house, limply endorsing everything put under their noses by their masters. Majority rule anyway so, if 20 members want something off the other 7, they're going to get it.

Let's examine the process of putting political appointees in place, shall we? It's an issue in American politics too, so there are no shortage of case histories to draw upon.

TCL > in the first Scottish Devolution referendum, there was vote in favour but it was not carried forward because 40% of the electorate had to have voted in favour. In the EU vote, only 37.44% of the electorate voted to leave.

Interesting. Would be harsh though. I had thought the deck was stacked in favour of remain, i.e. the status quo, better the devil you know, etc. and that because of this even a tiny Leave vote should be accepted.

With hindsight I realise that the deck was stacked in favour of Leave. That was the "do something" option and it was supported by rebels, not the incumbent party leaders. The perfect opportunity to register a protest vote OR express your true desire to leave the EU, the combination of which has resulted in a leave victory.

Incidentally, if you really are in Corby ... 64.2% for leave on a 74.1% turnout!

ELLIPSIS , yes I am in Corby and there is a flaw in the petition wording. If the turnout is 75% there could be a 50.1%/49.9% vote and there would be no need for another vote because the turnout threshold had been met even though only 37.58% of the electorate had voted for the winning option. The wording should be that 45% of the electorate has to vote for a change.
