I have been making a note of the reasons people I meet have given for voting the way they did, here are the ones I remember, please add your own.
'Leave' vote reasons, Because >>
I hate that pr*ck Cameron ( 4 votes for this reason)
I hate the government
It was that Bloody Thatcher what got us in it.
We can run our own country again
I don't want foreigners telling us what to do
It will get rid of the bloody immigrants ( this was the largest number of all the given reasons , more than all the others put together !)

Remain vote reasons Because >>>
Holidays will be cheaper
My mobile phone bill will be cheaper
It is best for our trade
It helps exports
I want to be able to work in the EU.
Please add the reasons you have heard from both sides.

"It was that Bloody Thatcher what got us in it."

I wasn't alive at the time so I cannot make recollections but if my knowledge is correct, we joined the EU in February 1973, along with Ireland and Denmark.

Thatcher became Tory leader in 1975 and entered No. 10 in 1979.

I could be wrong...
L
We want our representatives in government accountable.

R
I didn't want my future ruined, a want to be able to visit Europe and study.
I want to be the same as other Europeans, I don't consider myself British.
I think anyone wanting out is a racist.
T'was Edward Heath that got us in ( bloody con man ).

NoMercy, I was very well aware that Thatcher had nothing to do with it.
I could not resist smiling when I heard the reason though,
For leaving a man was interviewed on the news saying he wanted to eat bent bananas.

For remaining, I heard "i want to still be able to play Euromillions"

I despair.
I know, Eddie. Some of the reasons I've heard for voting beggar belief...
Remain(in a video I posted earlier) so not made up like Eddie's stories.

'I wanted to go travelling in Europe but now I'll have to pay for it.
It's not fair, I shouldn't have to pay'.

Millions of Remainers thought the 'free movement of people' meant what it said on the tin.

Svejk I can not prove it but you have my word that these are not made up!
All are what people have told me or I have actually heard them saying.

"I own a business and 80% of my sales are to the EU"
- woman in audience on Question Time or one of the other debates.

L
"Ever closer union"
- Merckel, Juncker, other EUrocrats.

Be fair. Back when we joined it about European trade. Now it's about European rule, which is why I voted out.
I haven't actually seen this yet but then there's only so much I can take in at one sitting. Maybe it's out there, maybe just my fevered imagination

Leave: I want to be able to hurl gross insults at fellow citizens, calling the traitors and other revolting names, badgering them constantly until I work myself into such a frenzy that I eventually demand matching shirts and armbands cos mere bullying is for wimps.
Oh, I forgot. The same girl said, 'The NHS'. ????? Gawd save us and help us, lolz.

Leave: £350 milion a week to nhs
Close the doors to foreigners
These two were the most popular reason ive heard.
why should we subsidize french farmers
and i was also told by one individual that he intended to vote leave because he was fed up with gays getting more and more rights! He actually used two derogatory words ( f@ggots and Qu@@rs ) This one shocled me the most not because of the use of words but because this type of moron gets to vote..and he's not alone!

Remain: most reasons ive heard is because of the people in the remain camp ie because if world leaders, heads of companys, and other large financial institutions say we should remain then we should remain!

Few said holidays/travel
trade

Like you Eddie, most of the people I have met, have listed immigration as the main, and sometimes only reason.

And the lower down the social scale you go, that gets more prevalent. I will probably be howled down for saying this but as far as I can see, its the Johnnie Foreigner excuse every time.

No mercy....that bloody woman was an enthusiastic fan of Europe, when we had the last Referendum !
Being unable to control/avoid a population explosion is hardly a Johnny Foreigner excuse.

R
We will lose our grants. / Science will be without support.
Lawks a mercy ! no mercy - you dont need an IQ test to vote

( Heath got us in in 1973 by the way at any cost which set up the British dissatisfaction with the deal )

R - the future of England is not as Little England
( the whole fambly - eight )

Leave - immigrants,
passports ( we cant get blue ones back as they are the wrong size for international treaty - well change the treaty ! ) ,
British contribution whcih will go straight to the NHS - the next day ! no sgin of that yet.

Biggest jaw dropper was
a British Indian saying he voted leave to limit immigration
and I said well my parents were nt born here were yours ?
and he replied ... no
// Being unable to control/avoid a population explosion is hardly a Johnny Foreigner excuse.//

a population explosion is just about as likely as an explosion in your pants OG
Population explosion has already been happening for ages. Check the figures. Or pop down the road and see the urban sprawl.

Why wouldn't an immigrant or their offspring decide to look after the interest of the country they choose to reside at ? That's exactly the behaviour we need to encourage, not one of, "I've made it, blow the country I want open house here now regardless of consequences".
