"We understand that debates get heated, but personal attacks and abusive language will not be tolerated"

Can we all calm down a bit please?

I've been written to several times about how abrasive and aggressive this section has become.

Several have pointed out that the language in particular has become childish and brutish, with name calling and hyperbole being especially annoying.

So let's calm down a bit. Let's stop calling people "traitors to britain" and "friends of jihad" or similarly rude things.

If you can't make your opinion felt without resorting to these personal attacks, then you'll likely be met with suspension, or banning.

All the best,

Ed

This Referendum issue is sort of like a math/maths class: It has created quite a division amongst you, and the gap is multiplying daily with the addition of acrimonious remarks which is really subtracting from the quality of the site.

I know, divebuddy, but Mrs. stuey is out this afternoon, and I'm the cook, and that's all she gets.
Can't argue there, db. I'm just waiting for the 'Have you been to the toilet yet?' threads.

I'm off up the apple and pears. I'm cream crackers..
Crackered!
I fear you may have shot yourself in the foot with this thread ABEd. It seems to have caused more acrimony not less.

The impenetrable rhyming slang has been a tradition on AB for many years. Other notable exponents were R1Geezer, Kayles, Thatcherite and PetitAnglais.
Unfortunately the language has not kept up to date. Ruby Murray last troubled the charts 57 years ago and Alan Whicker last graced our screens 40 years ago. As references, no one under 40 will have a clue who they were.
Brahms died 120 years ago yet people have no problem recognising his name.
Probably because Brahms is worth listening to.
Good one Ozzy ;-)
"Probably because Brahms is worth listening to."

I need to be Brahms and Liszt to listen to him !....
Enough of this rhyming slang nonsense, lets get back to the subject in hand "Personal Attacks And Abusive Language".

Will that include accusations of racism, xenophobia, homophobia just because one dares to approach subject such as terrorism or immigration, same sex marriages etc. Legitimate subjects that have been extensively covered in our press recently.

I have reported some on here who constantly attack me with these insults, but strangely have yet to see any of their posts removed.
