Do we all take only candid shots?......I pose folk for a photo.....the kids.....the wedding party......the girl's night out photo....

To me it shows a single arrogant female trying to use her sexuality in an attempt to defy the police's request to clear the highway.

When the photographer got there, the US flag had already been raised. Then a couple of hours later, a General ordered them to put up a much bigger flag, as the one already up was too small to see. The photographer realised he had the chance to capture the flag raise after all.
So it is iconic but not exactly true .

Rosa Parks defied the law back in 1955. Most protests are against the laws of the time....that how things are changed.

All the indications are that Philando Castile was executed by a Policeman in Minnesota. I am not excusing violence on either side, but as long as the Police can't be trusted to carry out their duties irrespective of the race of the people they apprehend, we are going to be seeing more of this in the future.

Regarding the picture, sorry - but I don't think it's that amazing. It tells a story, but it doesn't strike me as all that iconic.

Actually...I take that back. I've just read the Facebook page of the journalist (Shaun King) who posted the picture.

There was something I didn't clock about the picture...and now I've seen his text, I get the point.

There is a clever bit of subtext...I just didn't see it.

It is obvious to me that people are not judging the photograph but are giving their opinion on US policing and Black Lives Matter.

It's like dismissing the Mona Lisa on the grounds that the model was a prostitute.

We all know that you have very little time for the police, why? only you knows the answer to that, but it is generally that those who think this way have experienced some past confrontation with the law.
