Thank goodness we still have a Monarchy.

/// andy hughes, I think you'll find aog has spotted an imaginary racist reference in the old English word spade. ///

Not imaginary, look it up, it may be an old English word for a spade, but we don't live in old England now and meanings change, take the word 'GAY'?
From your link

/// 2/ offensive slang a black person, especially a male with very dark skin. ///
I find it more concerning that someone with such a highly paid job has only just noticed we have a Royal Family.

Has she been away somewhere?
Just say shovel - it's easier,

ps Yes I know they're in reality different.

No not quite the same, one couldn't say "Calling a Spade a Shovel"

Not the same tool Mam, also one couldn't say "Ace of Shovels" or even black as the Ace of Shovels".
I think that she was just latching onto her 15 minutes of fame as promised by Andy.
Yes I did say they aren't the same - was but a jest.

If the age old saying 'Call a spade a spade' perturbs anyone, they could say 'Call a shovel a shovel'.

I know my tools - at times it's like being surrounded by them ;-)
'Calling a spade a shovel' is an accepted figure of speech. It means mincing one's words.
I wasn't having a 'DIG' at you Mam :0)
Wouldn't be the 'scoop' of the day if you were ;-)
One thing a shovel can do better than a spade and that is "shovel more *** up".
Leaves?
This thread is running like the proverbial ...
Proverbial what ... leaves off a spade?
running like *** off a hot shovel
Wow, even my stars got starred. "excrement" [inf.]
Vile witch.
How do you confuse an Irish man - give him two spades and tell him to take his pick.....is that racist?

This woman was a numpty...it won't help any future job application, except perhaps for shadow foreign sec in the Corbyn part
