Perhaps he is just a nasty thug who hopefully will get what he deserves.
Perhaps it was......
It was definitely a dreadful and unprovoked attack.
I hope that the 5 victims continue to recover and attain full health very soon.
Bassey, from Dagenham, then cooly re-joined his 20-strong group of friends who could be seen laughing and joking after the random attack in the early hours of Sunday, May 22 this year.

Do you know wether this group of 20+ friends were all black?

//Bassey, who handed himself in to police, had been drinking and taking drugs on the night and was heavily intoxicated at Ockendon station in Essex//

I think you have the answer as to why the attack happened (though god only knows why anyone carries an alkaline liquid about with then)

The report does not indicate any particular reasons for the attack other than his being drunk and on drugs and had there been a racist element, would the Judge not have drawn attention to the fact?
There isn't any evidence to support that this was a racially motivated attack. In order for the Crown Prosecution Service to bring about a charge of 'racially motivated'.

From the Citizens Advice Bureau:

Racially motivated attacks and religiously motivated attacks are attacks which are carried out because of a someone's racial or ethnic origin, or their religion or lack of religion.

If Bassey had been shouting racist statements when he made the attack, then it would be filed under 'racially motivated'.

As it is, we cannot say for certain that race was a key factor.
AOG....no evidence whatsoever of racism in this incident.

From your link ::::

Judge Ian Graham told Bassey he feared he would offend again.

He said: 'You appear before the court for five extremely serious offences.

'There is no explanation as to why you should have done this.

We maybe can't say it 'for certain' but we can say it.

It was an attack by a black thug on five innocent white travellers. Had it been a white thug attacking five innocent black travellers we wouldn't have such tip-toeing around.

If in your hypothetical situation, and the white attacker said nothing at the time, it would be impossible for the CPS to add 'racially aggravated.'

There has to be supporting evidence.
This might be a clue, if you did not bother to read your own link

// Iain Purdie, mitigating, said: 'I can offer the explanation of drunkenness and drug taking but that is not an excuse. //
Dog whistle report? - Most definely.
The explanation is clearly that his mind does work properly, that he will be a continuous menace to decent folk in society, and needs to be locked in the appropriate institution for the rest of his natural life for the sake of those who can interact properly with others in society. I don't see why most deny the obvious, and/or dispute it when I point it out yet again for yet another case.
Odd how the Judge was of a different opinion, eh?

Get real, you are talking about a black on white attack here.

And neither should it be an excuse for you also.

Would the racial murder of Stephen Lawrence been classed differently, if his killers had been drunk and had been taken drugs?
A racist attack? Well to me this young thug looks mixed race, probably half white half black so racist, no. Horrible, unprovoked and unjustly dealt with, with a measly 8 year sentence, yes.
AOG,
The police and prosecutors have offered no evidence that this was a racially motivated attack. He was not charged with an hate crime.
Because victim and perpetrator are of a different race does not automatically mean that race was the primary reason for the attack.

The comparison with Lawrence is erroneous. The men involved in that attack were recorded saying they would kill every black ****, Pak*. In that case it was established that race WAS the motive. In this case, there has been no indication that it was.

It is clear that you do so desperately want this to be a race attack. But sorry, it isn't.

Terrorist ? NO

Mentally Ill? NO

Racial? NO

Well it's ticked all the boxes once again, did anyone expect any difference?

We wouldn't wish to upset certain groups now would we?
///We wouldn't wish to upset certain groups now would we? ///

Would that be groups of elderly white men with a bee in their collective bonnet about 'racial issues'?
AOG, why can't you just accept that some thugs are just mindless and without motive?
I agree with Ummmm. Not everything that happens in the world is racially or religiously motivated and it would be uneducated and downright arrogant to think so.
