The actions of individual MPs like this may irritate constituents but they don't usually bring disgrace on the whole party (think John Major and Edwina Currie: people sniggered but it didn't make any difference to their voting habits).

The Major/Currie tryst was revealed long after he was PM. There was no damage to his career because it was already over.
