and as shes already said if you dont like her posts then dont read them...seems you love to be offended, and have turned it into an art form //
There is absolutely no need for such vitriol.
I am sure Islay is able to decide which posts to read, which to respond to, and which to ignore.
I think you should dial down the venom and express your disagreements in a less intimidating and unpleasant tone.

Islay, //please don't make out your all innocent now!! //
What on earth are you talking about? I stand by every word I've said.
I've had nothing but criticism and insults from you. I have twice asked you to tell me what I've said that cannot be supported but you have not responded to that presumably because you have no answer. Now if you have nothing relevant to say to me, please stop this constant abuse. And incidentally, I have not made anti-Muslim comments on the police thread. Read it again.

/// No doubt this will encourage more women from Muslim and minority ethnic backgrounds to join Police Scotland.’ ///
Yes I am sure that more Chinese, Jews, and other none Muslims groups will be rushing out to join Police Scotland now.
Yet another matter that should be taken into consideration, is the fact that Muslims are not the 'flavour of the month' with others, apart from the white indigenous population.

/// Why would these Muslim police officers in their attire cause any additional resentment on Scottish streets than that caused by the presence of more 'traditionally' attired police officers? ///
Then that is proof that the whole exercise is a waste of time, everyone knows who the police are, it doesn't take the necessity of providing a different uniform to make them more acceptable, those who are willing to break the law will still resent them.

/// When some commentators talk about 'fitting in', they're talking about fitting in to a society that doesn't exist any more. They're talking about the 50s. ///

Yes and just take a look at us now, unlike some I can remember the 50s, yes in some ways it wasn't all sunshine, but it was a much less complicated England we lived in then.
Yes and there were 'ethnic minorities' back then, but they were happy to live along side the indigenous population who they had happily chosen to come and live along side with.

I think you will find that nothing has fundamentally changed, in terms of interaction between different ethnicities.
My belief is that the media has constructed this 'bogeyman' persona for Islam and stoked it up with the shadowy notion of a 'takeover', and it is simply a media construct - a myth.
I would not for one minute diminish the horror of Isis, but taken in proper context, the influence of Isis on Islam is not the huge meeting of hostile minds that the media loves to portray.
Once a week I allow a devout Muslim to stand over me with a cut throat razor in his hand - a microcosm of integration at work.
Simple trust in the inherent goodness of the average human being, and looking at what is there, not what the media tells you is there - will get all of us through, and we can all relax and enjoy life!

It's simply a case of Countries catching up in their own time, as I said I hadn't realised Scotland had not allowed it till now.
Canada for example:
//The RCMP has become the third Canadian police agency to allow hijabs to be worn on duty. Toronto police first allowed it in 2011 and Edmonton police give it the green light in 2013.
In early 1990, RCMP Sikh officers were allowed to wear turbans, and general attitudes towards the uniforms have softened since then.
Encouraging diversity appears to be a significant part of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau domestic policy. Earlier on Tuesday, he dismissed the idea of Canada imposing a burkini ban – a hot and pressing issue across Europe.
“In Canada, can we speak of acceptance, openness, friendship, understanding? It is about where we are going and what we are going through every day in our diverse and rich communities,” he was cited as saying.//

JTH > I'm suggesting that if these Sharia patrols *need* to be dealt with, the Muslim Officers will deal with them in exactly the same way as Non-Muslim Officers.
The PCSO's will probably attend to do the touchy-feely discussions and then have to call for backup if that doesn't work since they can't arrest anybody...
