I was amused the T³ had contributed to the earlier thread.

Seen the before Eddie. It is what may happen. But since we can say, "Blow it" and go at any time it isn't guaranteed to occur. Chances are it'll evolve as the UK as first one to find the nerve to say, "Enough", goes through the process.
//Open Europe is a socially and economically liberal pan-European think tank and campaign group with offices in London and Brussels and an independent partner organisation in Berlin operated by staff from a number of EU states. The think-tank promotes retaining a close UK relationship with the EU, high levels of EU migration, as well as liberal economic and political reform of the remaining European Union//

These are the people blowing smoke up your "arris" in Eddies link. Pro EUSSR , their very existence depends on the UK being in the pyramid scheme. When we are out there is no need for a London office. They will scweem and scweem........... until we are sick though.
It does not alter the FACT that once we instigate A50 the European Council meet WITHOUT the UK's representatives and decide on the terms of withdrawal. Those terms will be subject to approval by a simple majority of the other EU states. If we just walk out we will prove we can not be trusted to abide by any trade terms or deals we may negotiate outside the EU.
We will have a reputation for just saying 'Up yours', and walking out if a trading agreement does not suit us! Can we live with that?

you've pointed that out 45000 times eddie and I have never fathomed why you seem to think it is relevant and I always give the same answer: They can talk about what they like, we are out of here, crow bar this in somehow, we do not need the EU at all, we'll do a trade deal or we won't, it matters not. So they hit us with tariffs, Beamers and mercs get more expensive, geddit!?
^ I give up !

hooray, now go and finish off the sour grapes and get ready for life outside your beloved EUSSR.
TTT will you be offering your services to the Brexitary of State, David Davis?
EDDIE at 21.29 - well, yes, we can, if we have to. Don't want to, particularly, but if the EU is going to be horrid to us then we do what is called for.
(Personally have already suffered a lost house-sale in France and that is a huge financial blow - but we'll just have to live with it; UK freedom is more important than personal suffering.)

Yes TCL.

Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty states

1. Any Member State may decide to withdraw from the Union in accordance with its own constitutional requirements.

By deciding to leave the EU the UK is not breaking any treaty.

The other 27 members then decide the terms they are prepared to offer, subject to negotiation. If the UK accepts agreed terms we can leave at that time.
If the EU and the UK can not agree terms the UK may not leave the EU until 2 years from the date Article 50 was invoked. If all the member states, including the UK, wish to continue negotiations after 2 years they may carry on arguing.

The UK is perfectly within its rights to just walk away after 2 years without breaking any rules.

The UK is perfectly within its rights to just walk away after 2 years without breaking any rules...

...If it ever invokes Article 50 that is. I don't actually see the Brexiteers complaining ToraToraTora, but I see you moaning a lot about it and blaming the "Brexiteers" or whatever your latest hilarious TLA is for people who voted remain.

If you want to leave Europe, why aren't you bemoaning the Conservatives for not beginning the process. After all, their promise to curb immigration and extract the UK from Europe was the main reason you voted for them, right?

Keep talking about lentil crunching and muesli hugging if you CBA, but you're BUTWT on this issue. Look to your peers, not your adversaries for a solution to suit you and then go and berate them for their lack of action.
"If we just walk out we will prove we can not be trusted to abide by any trade terms or deals we may negotiate outside the EU."

Simply untrue. It merely means that we indicate we do not tolerate being pushed around according to inadequately formed rules/demands/processes by a powerblock that has no intent to be reasonable, but merely wishes to take over everything. Remember we joined an economic community not a European union.

Reputation is enhanced not diminished by proving to be no pushover and willing to stand up for what is right. Anyone with any sense will know that actions in exceptional circumstances bear no relationship to actions under normal fair conditions.
