I can't bear the man, or the toady, obsequious trots who follow him ...

And I think his policies are hair-brained pie in the sky.

But, to give credit (reluctantly) ...

... even though he was talking nonsense ...

I thought he spoke very well at the conference this afternoon.

Corbyn is a bit of a Spacer, but then again think about the Knuckle draggers on the other side , MAYDAY, MAYDAY, MAYDAY , HELP, SOS.
stop it with the "unelected" BS, we do not elect the PM we elect MPs the party elects it's leader and usually the leader of the largest party is the PM, some times parties change their leader, Capiesch?
for once, I agree with you, TTT, each party has its own leader election methods, not the populace.....

And nationalising the railways - that's mad, a massive drain on government finances, a bed of extreme unionism and totally inefficient and not focused on customers at all - and cold soup in the buffet car. Next thing will be a plan to unravel Beecham (a Labour party implementation, by the way).
We all know that TTT

However I do recall a lot of right wingers on here criticizing Brown for being un-elected at the time
perhaps bazille but not me and I would have castigated them with all the rest. I am not ignorant of our system like many. I fully accept the validity of all those who are PM after their party leader relinquishes the position. I believe there have been at least 12 cases from all sides.
Bazile, // I do recall a lot of right wingers on here criticizing Brown for being un-elected at the time //

No doubt they did but that's not the point. Since both parties have had unelected Prime Ministers at their helm it was dishonest of him to castigate Mrs May in that way.

Mikey, //He wants to build more affordable housing, and re-nationalse the railways....most people wouldn't have too many problems with that. //

I think most people would have a problem with the rest of it.

Incidentally, houses are being built in their hundreds in this area. Huge estates going up.
There was nothing wrong with the Railways when they were Nationalised and run at an Operating Profit. The loss they were suffering was from the Interest they had to pay on the money they were deemed to have borrowed from the Government at their inception. A loan which was cancelled when BR was sold off to private companies.

Hans.
Ditto Concorde?
As Harry Enfield would say.

My brother and I always have a bet that someone from Labour will mention Thatcher in their speech at any of their gatherings. If I had bet a pound each time, I'd be a rich man. Unelectable.
//He wants to build more affordable housing, and re-nationalse the railways....most people wouldn't have too many problems with that. //

Problem is mikey if he is in charge of it, the trains will stand still, and the houses would probably be on such shallow foundations that if you had one you would have to chase it.
no one has had an unelected prime minister naomi, do keep up.
I know that. Jeremy, it appears, doesn't. ;o)
The last unelected PM was Lord Home in 1963. For three weeks, until he won a by-election, he did not sit in Parliament.
Jackdaw, How come? Tell me more.
Plenty of affordable and council housing being built here - under Tory a council.

Perhaps Jezza should tell his own councils to ditch the money wasting left wing policies and get their trowel out.

Lord Home was not an MP but he was elected leader of his party and was PM from the Lords until he renounced his peerage after a few days and stood for Parliament in a seat in Scotland.
Thanks TTT. I didn't know that.
Jeremy Corbyn, in his closing address, denounced anti-semitism as "evil". given that stance i wonder, had he been PM this week, what excuse he'd have given for not attending the funeral of Shimon Peres, lest he should offend his mates in HAMAS?

"need to read the daily mirror that day, sorry."
Re 'unelected' PMs, the big difference between the Brown instance and the May one is that, back then, there were right-wing nutters dressed up as BEER-bottles following Brown around, so that they could shout "Bottler Brown!" at him. In other words, they branded him as a coward.
I don't notice any left-wingers doing that to May. When she gained the Tory 'crown', I tried to think of a suitably alliterative descriptor for the lady. The best the thesaurusi could come up with was 'milksop'. If we lefties weren't so polite, we migh be seeing such people dressed as MILK-bottles yelling, "Milksop May!" at her!
