Eddie, //We may survive naomi, but the UK as a whole will be the worse for it.//

We WILL survive. No question about that. I wish an independent Scotland well.

If the wee lady wishes Scottish to leave the UK, She should allow the English to vote, I'm sure she would get her independence.

Well said murraymints
thank you Jordy ..think I will put myself up for election...couldn't do any worse than dear Nicola !!
You can count on my vote, she should be spending her time with other problems like food banks in Scotland never thought that I would live to see that,VOTE FOR MINTY XX
lol xx
Another referendum DOES NOT require Westminster approval!
The original referendum contained a clause that a second referendum can be called if 'there is a substantial change' to the status of the UK. Leaving the EU is such a 'substantial change'. The second referendum is already approved by the vote to leave the EU.
and THAT referendum was defeated !!
and Scotland will NEVER be admitted to the EU on it's own cognisance ..

DB:"Neither common sense nor any facts matter at all. Independence is the only thing that matters. No price is too high. " - yeah but she doesn't want independence she just wants to split from the awld enemy and subjugate her country to a foreign power.

I think that MM represents the less vocal but more sensible Scots, the ones that did not vote for "independence". Sturgeon appeals to the more anti English contingent.
Being Scottish does not equate to " hating English" . get that chip off your shoulder ttt.
You will never get that message through to TTT, Anne, I'm afraid. I've been telling him literally for years that a desire to be free of English political dominance within the UK is not at all the same as a hatred of the English themselves.
He himself, as a strong Brexiter, was desperate to be free of the political dominance of the European Union, but I don't suppose for even a moment that he actually hates Swedes, Poles or Slovenians.
I'm Scottish and have lived and worked in England for several decades; I have an English wife, one of my children was born here, most of my current friends are English...I could go on, but the point is that I have not a shred of animosity towards the English. I like them...including TTT...and I do not personally know a single Jock who feels any different from myself. (Yes, there may well be such people about, just as there are English people who dislike Scots...several of them right here on AB...but neither of these groups is representative of their nations.)
Nor does TTT understand that the Scots do not see membership of the EU as being under a yoke of dominance; indeed, they voted 62%/38% in favour of remaining part of that union. Despite that, they are likely to be forced out of it because that's what ENGLAND voted for.
It is because of this sort of thing that many Scots would, indeed, like to get out from under such English influence and leaving the UK is clearly the only possible way to achieve that end. As part of the UK, it is never going to happen, we know that since the English form the vast bulk of the electorate.
We don't see the English as "the auld enemy", but just as the "bulk" that overhangs us. (By 'us', of course, I mean the Scots who do actually want independence and I certainly appreciate that we are still a minority - but a significant one - in Scotland. I remain convinced that, dv, it will come one probably not-too-distant day.
It's very simple. Scotland is a fiercely independent country which demands the right to determine which union it wants to be dependant upon.
