One, from a Tory ex-MEP, pointed out that Thatcher defended rigorous enforcement of treaty rules against state aid for industry. He went on to say that it was easy to imagine the squeals of outrage we'd hear in Britain if such an offer were made by France or Spain.
(Oh, Maggie how soon your die-hard supporters have forgotten what you really stood for!)
The other letter was pitiful but almost heart-rending in its way. It was from a small-business owner who wanted to know when he might expect a letter from the Business Secretary assuring him that his business, like Nissan, would not lose out as a result of Brexit.
Would there be any grounds for complaint by the UK if any EU country offered Nissan some "perk" for moving from HERE to THERE? Given what clearly has happened - whatever form the "deal" took - I cannot imagine how there could be.
