Got it in one, how did you guess?

Mob mentality, disgraceful.

In the 50,s and 60,s, yes in the era of the Krays, i would happily walk through the back streets of the East End of London after dark, but clearly one must now be wary, even in the daylight.
The right on brigade will be along soon to explain how this is the fault of the plods. Come on it's everyone's right to walk around with a machette and these officers had overstepped their authority! PMSL! yes we have become a much more violent society.
Totally agree with Sqad. Well put.

Totally agree and I wonder on what, we can focus the blame?
I note that the one arrest that has been made is 15 years old. Not a kid and certainly old enough to know right from wrong.

I've mentioned before whilst at school and having a discussion with a Careers Advisor, that most males wanted to join the police or enter journalism.

I suspect that in the last 20 years that the number wishing to enter the police force has dropped considerably.

The group involved in this attack probably don't know the meaning of the word 'respect' so one can hardly expect them to show it.

As to your question 'what is this country coming to', well, the country that once still had the 'Great' in 'Britain' is just a distant memory.

Who are the role models of today? Too many parents who have no idea what their 'kids' are getting up to on the streets, teachers that have limits on discipline that they can mete out (another profession who are more and more abused). Too few serious punishments given by the courts leading to repeat offenders.

I feel so sorry for the many children of today who are so 'bored' with the lack of leisure opportunities and devices at their disposal that they have to resort to causing ASB, vandalism and assault to get their kicks.

If only some of them really knew what it was like growing up in the 20's/30's/40's.

They wouldn't last five minutes.
I think you have a good point about leisure facilities, ag, I used to do loads of activities as a kid and they were affordable. Today parents often can't afford to send their kids....
....but they can afford to smoke, drink, waccy backy, 50 inch plasmas, Xboxes and and iPhone each! All on the rock and roll! wonderful!

Quite so agchristie, quite so.

But "bored' with the lack of leisure opportunities and devices at their disposal"?????????

The children of the 20's/30's/40's, had almost zero leisure amenities, what ones they had they sought them out themselves.

The back streets the alleys the open fields the woods, all places of adventure.

To say nothing of the seasonal sports, whip and top and marbles at Easter, cricket, kite flying and trolleys in summer and football and sledging in winter, they were the days.

All these when ironically the standard piece of equipment for every lad was a very sharp sheath knife attached firmly on one's trousers belt, with never a thought of inflicting harm on another, only on a stout piece of wood.
Just as bad (and far more sinister) is this article in the same issue:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/11/21/school-cancels-talk-far-right-trump-cheerleader-milo-yiannopoulos/

So PC fascism continues to rule UK.
AOG - the 'bored' comment was meant to be tongue in cheek.

Point being that some of these kids could have the 'world' and it still wouldn't be enough...

Since the Calais 'children' it seems that calling young adults, children or kids is standard procedure.

Sorry, I now understand where you were coming from.

Ha! Not even borderline ;o)

That would have made an interesting subject for debate in it's self.

AOG, I remember my woodwork teacher actually sharpened my knife for me!
