to be honest mikey if tobacco or cigarettes where wrapped in toilet paper smokers will still buy them
What advertising? They are hidden from view in shops so the only time you'll see a pack is if you know a smoker.

It just makes life a bit harder for shopkeepers.

Yes, and I expect that is why Benson and Hedges are sold in very bright, shiny gold boxes then, isn't it ? Just like bog roll !
lol

The sheer range and diversity of packaging across the various brands would suggest otherwise.

If cigarettes sold without being advertised, they would not be advertised.

It's as simple as that.

We have come a long way since cigarettes were advertised on the boys toys of my youth ::::::

The only time I ever bought cigarettes for their appearance was as a teen and they were fancy coloured cocktail cigarettes with gold tips.

Taste is the reason most buy with price close behind.
Andy smokers would buy their cigarettes however they were packaged with or without advertising i dont smoke.... if its to try and stop people smoking make a packet of 20 £50

Can't remember the last time I saw any Advertising for them tbh.

Addiction is the first reason I would have thought Mamy !

We had all these arguments when advertising was banned, and when the smoking in public places legislation was brought in, and it doesn't wash.

Even non-smokers know that B+H come in bright gold boxes.
Can't abide B&H.
good something we can both rejoice at!

Indeed TTT !
When I smoked I chose Marlboro Lights for their glamorous box. I think it's a good idea to get rid of the packaging.

You don't see many kids hanging around outside shops smoking any more. I guess that because they're always fiddling with their phones now.
This is such a load of tosh. Firstly the packaging has nothing to do with advertising. Secondly as a smoker I expected the new packets to be really plain, like brown paper maybe with some text. I have just started to buy my brand in the new style and it's just as covered in words and pictures as always except it's mainly blackm in fact it looks decidedly cooler and macho. Anyone who thinks this has any effect on reducing smoking or is a great idea is puffing in the wind.
Cigarette tubing machine, make my own then into a case.

Not to impress anyone just to stop them drying out.

Prudie...I am afraid you are wrong. You appear to know very little about advertising and marketing.

Tobacco companies use the pretty, eye-catching packets as the only form of advertising still open to them.

Its a way of showing their products to other smokers, in the hope that they will change, and also a way of making people think smoking is glamorous. Some people still think that smoking B+H is somehow "better" for you than a less glamorous and cheaper brand.

And every time any action is taken against smoking and smokers, the result is that less people will smoke in the future.

And that is a Good Thing, isn't it ?
Since when has b&h been more glamorous ?
Perhaps we should go even further and ban advertising and attractive packaging on unhealthy food products. Obesity is also a killer.
