You cannot make it up! Some just go out of their way to find offence!

Vegetarians/Vegans try to leave as light a footprint as possible when it comes to using animal products and by-products but as it says in Mamya's link complete avoidance can be difficult to achieve.
This is just a vegetation cafe not a vegan cafe.

So the devout Christian B&B owners are not allowed to discriminate against gay couples but some poncy cafe can discriminate against every other person with a new legal tender fiver in their pocket? I suppose it is because walking while in possession of a new fiver is not a protected characteristic.

I would be inclined to line up all my friends (admittedly few) and all go in with old fivers with some sort of animal product on them. Then post about how they accept fivers that contain animal products. Or go in and order anything that has to be made or plated up and when they refuse the fiver go 'oh well it is all the change I have. Take it or leave it.'

This story has little to do with principles and more to do with free advertising.

nobody's discriminating against people over what they have in their pockets, and more than a bus driver is discriminating when he says he won't take cash.
such a lot of fuss about nothing. A shop chooses not to accept the new fivers. Its legal for them to do so. Anyone who doesn’t like their decision is free not to go there. I had to laugh at TTT’s comment "Some just go out of their way to find offence!” because he is a prime offence finder/taker
Yes, rather ironic isn't it woof.
ZM, I think TTT has been OD’ing on the irony juice

I listened to More or Less on R4 yesterday. They've worked out how many cows were killed in order to make all the new fivers. And the answer is... One...
I don't think any cows were killed specifically to make the new fiver. In fact I'm certain.
I should have been a bit clearer, zacs. The amount of fat required to make the fivers was the equivalent to one cow.
I'm sure one of them was told "Right, Esmeralda, from now on you're in the money."
Saying that this is is "discrimination", cassa, is a bit like saying a shop that doesn't take card payments is "discriminating" against you. It's a completely inaccurate use of the word. The Christian B&B owners were breaking the law specifically in order to deny service to a section of the population.

If they don't want to use the new £5 notes, that's up to them. I imagine their customers feel the same seeing as they are also vegans. I don't see what the problem is.
Good for them.

Oh gawd the "newspeak" lingo again. But they do like to stomp about with faux concern if they get a micro chance.
Quite so. And they are going to have to opt out of an awful lot of things in support of that aim. They probably have dozens of items in their establishment which contain animal products. The fact that the B of E should even entertain such errant nonsense is beyond belief.
Why are posters confusing vegetarian with vegan,The cafe is vegetarian.
I chose to call it discrimination because that is what I think it is. Discriminating against people who only have a new fiver I need their pocket.

Discrimination is in the eye of the beholder and I behold it. As I said though, walking while in possession of a new fiver isn't a protected characteristic, which apparently is the only discrimination that exists. Or I should it being offended that I'm thinking of?
What are they going to do when the plastic £10 and £20 notes come in?
I wonder if they ban people wearing leather shoes or jackets from her establishment.

Dave.
Plastic is made from oil , Hydro Carbon oil same as petrol and diesel, NOT animal oil T T T.
This entire story is just a successful attempt to gain free publicity anyway!
