//Not sure there is anything progressive about letting a convicted murder out on our streets// Gromit would never ever support such a Liberal action....in any circumstance. Unless of course know different. Meehh.

AOG - I didn't infer any criticism to the Mail for its 'crusading' approach - probably because I am not criticising them.

The Mail's task is to seek out, grab, keep, and expand its readership, and its sales figures speak for themselves with regard to their ability.
AOG - less than you are pompous - not difficult!!
If your 13:40 post wasn't a criticism of the Mail, then I don't know what is.

You also criticise the Mail and it's readership on a regular basis.

You accusing me of pomposity????????????

Take a look much nearer home.
AOG - //If your 13:40 post wasn't a criticism of the Mail, then I don't know what is. //

I can't be held responsible for your misinterpretation of what I post, that lies with you alone.

// You also criticise the Mail and it's readership on a regular basis. //

I am a Mail reader - as I have pointed out to you many times.

I see nothing wrong with a healthy dose of analysis if my daily paper and its readership - I prefer it to slavishly believing everything it says.

I am not getting into a spat with you, it derails and often loses threads, and I think this one is interesting, and does not deserve to be diluted in this way, so our exchange on this sideline is now closed.

closed. ///

Pomposity showing through yet again andy, shouldn't that be, so MY exchange on this sideline is now closed.
I do hope this very interesting thread is not removed because of derailment ..!!!!
Exchange - an act of giving one thing and receiving another (especially of the same kind) in return.

I hope so too anne - easier if one half of an exchange refuses to be drawn by the other - and I do.
No, Andy, you don't!!!

Don't answer...it's not hard.
ummmm - Where is the fun in that??????

divebuddy - //I've rarely seen so much rubbish and speculation presented as facts. Of course the Court could have given him bail if they wanted to do so.
There wasn't a single objection to bail or request for some condition or other from the prosecution, that alone makes refusal of bail unusual. //

I can't of course speak for others, but all I have said on the subject of bail is that the case does not meet the criteria laid down - that being 'exceptional circumstances' - and that is a fact because it is written in the judgement.
// The appeal has to be proven and the sentence annulled before a murderer can be release. That is a long way down the line.//

I thought Stephan Kizko ( lesley molseeds non murderer ) had to wait until he was cleared - "Kiszko was cleared and Lane ordered his immediate release from custody."

I had thought he was bailed when it became obvious ( about a year previously ) that he had azoospermia and so couldnt have done it - and it was all done by Waddington who was Home Secretary. His awful defence barrister who screwed his defence twenty years previously was also called Waddington and later became Home......

but even Stepan K did not get bail pending - even tho he was clearly innocent

Sgt Blackman admitted he had shot the fella didnt he ?
and then ran a defence of "I thought he was dead so I shot him"
which Jesus is kinda funny in an odd kinda way

// I've rarely seen so much rubbish and speculation presented as facts.//DB

this wouldnt be a description of the defence case .....

Bail isnt granted automatically if both sides dont object do they
it has the efect of by passing the judge

I thought they ( the judges) got all poncey if that was done
and did their - "we are here as final arbiters etc" war dance

As new judge keeps on asking ( in er other less contentious cases ) he did do it didnt he ?

divebuddy - Again speaking personally as is only right, I was only convinced that Ched Evans was 'guilty as sin' when he was convicted as such.
